Carvin bodies and necks?

The Screamin Demon demo vid thread got me thinking about something. Looked at Warmoth and nothing has really stood out in my head. Then I remembered Carvin has some options that sound particularly cool and worth a try, but I don't know how good their stand alone parts are.

Their bolt kits get a lot of praise, but I've not heard anything about just neck the necks or bodies. Anything I should be aware of?

Re: Carvin bodies and necks?

other than being skinny, their necks are well made from what ive seen

Re: Carvin bodies and necks?

Carvin guitars are as well built as anything out there. I can't imagine a neck or body would be anything other than excellent.

Re: Carvin bodies and necks?

I had a Bolt kit in ~2004 and I'll have to say even the cheapy guitars are absolutely great, my favorite so far. I can only imagine what the higher end stuff is like.

I use to buy all my parts from them. They have a good selection and the prices are good. I've since found GF has a greater selection (as long as it's not LH) at the same good price so I check them 1st, then Carvin.

I am going to get one of Carvin's GT-12 speakers before too long.

Re: Carvin bodies and necks?

If you want a different profile, you have to call and ask. I can't remember who you have to talk to but if you search their forum, you'll find the info. The other profiles may not be available on parts/kit orders though.

Re: Carvin bodies and necks?

I have one of their kits. I have put a new neck on it after 15 years. Neck pocket is slightly larger than Fender side to side. Pick up placement is slightly different than Fender and takes a tweak if you use a Warmoth guard for the HH set up.

Their bolt necks are around .92 at the 12th fret unfinished, I wouldn't call that skinny unless your idea of 'normal' is a baseball bat.

Re: Carvin bodies and necks?

When I got down to brass tack time and wanted a new electric in 2004 I checked every sucker ( brand ) I could here in southern California ( we got it good for variety here ) . I hit them all including Carvin and was on my way to getting one but one snag ( not a quality issue at all ) , they didn't have a electric with the midi option then and they do now .

You can't go wrong with a Carvin guitar period , their guarrantee is the best return policy and they have good amps as well .

I have one over 20 years old , it's a SX60 ,

60 watter tube issue and it's still kickin ass . I was almost convinced then and now

I might get their NS1 nylon acoustic electric midi now :

The Koa top on this one is a really beauty

Re: Carvin bodies and necks?

Mine is almost 18 years old. Still has the same neck. Seeing yours inspired me to give mine the same look/sound/feel. Thanks.

Re: Carvin bodies and necks?

I have always been interested in their kits. I think if they offered more options, they would really take off as an alternative to the other parts builders. I dig the 'skinny strat' idea, but I am not a fan of their headstock.
