After almost 3 months of owning the Carvin, here's my mini review:
It was stiff initially. I could tell by playing higher notes on the low e string, nevertheless it's more open and louder now. I would describe the overall tone as relatively scooped sounding (compared to the stock speaker in my 112 Laney combo).
Clean sound wise, it sounds beautiful with my Tele and Strat. I've discovered new sweet spots and new room for displaying subtle hand dynamics when playing. With my bucker guitars I'm still finding the sweet spots. Keeping the bass really low seems to help foir buckers.
Come overdriven sound (basically Led Zep to Darkness to Smashing Pumpkins heavy), it sounds much better now than initially. Still too loud for me , so I use pedals mainly. I usually jack up the mids to make up for the lack of it. At first I wasnt too fond of it but now I realise that a scooped speaker is probably more versatile and practical than a middy one. In conclusion, it's way beyond a bang-for-buck speaker.
Anyway, the main point of this thread is I'm thinking of trying out a Wizard. So I'm curious about how it sounds and how much they differ greatly tonally compared to this Carvin.
Thanks.
