Carvin Guitars

I've been keeping an eye out for a new guitar lately, and I'm having an extremely tough time making a definate decision.

I was wondering if anyone can personally vouch for the quality and craftsman ship of the custom made Carvin guitars. What is their tonal quality, and do they have anything over the more mainstream Gibson and Fender tones? I haven't heard too much about Carvin, and was hoping someone could give me the lowdown on the company.

Thanks-

Re: Carvin Guitars

Carvin has their own sound. I have a Carvin CT3M and I love it. It's much better than expected. The quality and attention to detail is amazing. Far better quality than Gibson or Fender and for a good price. I don't like their pickups at all though, they aren't bad, but nothing special either. They are really good guitars.

Re: Carvin Guitars

I've often heard Carvin be compared to PRS. How is the quality of say a Carvin C26M versus the midrange PRS CE 22? I'm strongly considering these two brands, and because of my inability to play Carvin at Guitar Center, I'm having trouble making a decision.

Re: Carvin Guitars

I'm a bit biased but my carvin placed against the PRS guitars I've played at guitar center, I far prefer the feel and sound of my carvin. PRS makes some damn fine guitars but I wanted something different with a little flatter fretboard radius and my Carvin does that. The quality of the carvin is just as good as the PRS.

Re: Carvin Guitars

Quite happy with my Carvin guitars.

Quality fit and finish.
I've never really felt the need to swap the pickups.
They are good stock pickups. But, not everyones flavor.
People have their favorites, and pickups are easely swappable.

I've played Carvin guitars since '89.
I practiced, recorded, and gigged with them.
They've held up excellent over the years.
Still my main go to guitars.

Re: Carvin Guitars

I live a couple of miles from a Carvin retail store. All of them that I've ever checked out have looked and played great. Excellent workmanship and attention to detail. The new carved tops look really impressive in person. I think they give you a trial period, too, so you wouldn't be stuck with it if you didn't like it.
