Carvin Legacy Q

The stock FS22 footswitch sill switch between channels and switch the reverb on and off. I don't need the reverb-switching function... the FS22 works on a tip-ring 1/4 inch plug and jack. Does anyone know whether the channel switching is controlled by the tip or the ring section of the plug? Could I buy a replacement footswitch like a single-button Marshall-style one from Mojotone or maybe a Boss FS5L or something and make it work that way?

I tried going to the Carvin messageboard to get an answer but their site f-ed up in the registration process and now i can't get in there.

Usually, the left footswitch is tip, or so I've found.

Just get a stereo jack, wire a black wire to the ring, red to tip, and bare to ground, and then connect em and see what ahppens!

Just got off the phone with Carvin.. apparently on the Legacy the RING is what switches channels. Reverb is wired to the tip.

I wonder if I can open the amp up and flip-flop the wires on the footswitch jack to reverse the order... it can't be THAT hard to do.

Yeah, that's simple. Just flip em, and it'll work!

Or, wire the end that goes into the amp to a stereo jack, and leave the tip unsoldered to anything . That's how I had to work my 5150 with the G-Major, as I needed the FX loop open 24/7.

Ok here's the plan...

~ Get a 1-button Marshall footswitch with just a tip contact on it.

~ Open up the Legacy and get to the footswitch jack and switch the wires on the tip and ring contacts. Void my warranty in the process.

~ Patch up the Legacy, plug in the Marshall, and eveything should work. If I use the old two-buttom switch, the "Reverb" button will now switch channels.

Any flaws in my plans or points I should be aware of?

Honestly, I'd just wire a stereo jack to Marshall footswitch, and not risk voiding your warantee.

But if you split the stereo footswitch plug into two mono plugs, you get BOTH "activation signals" (or whatever you call them) going to the tips on each of the 2 mono plugs.

The Carvin uses the RING to switch the channels.

Now if I got a y-cable with two female mono inputs and a stereo male output I could do it, but I'd rather just not have to worry about 2 extra connections coming loose. Besides, I can always open the amp back up and reverse the footswitch jack, too.

Solder the footswitches ground to the sleeve.

Solder the footswitches hot to the ring.

Leave the tip unsoldered to everything (leaves it open).

That'll let you channel select without messing with the reverb.

So it looks like I'm off to Radio Shack for the stereo male plug and then doing some minor surgery on the Marshall switch...
