Carvin Power Amps

Has anyone used Carvin power amps for either a PA or for running studio monitors at home?

How do they compare to QSC and Crown products?

I am sick of my junk computer speakers and thought that, rather than buying powered monitors, if I get a regular amp it could also be used for mains or monitors for small venues.

Does anyone have suggestions for a power amp ............ maybe 200W max?

Re: Carvin Power Amps

I had good experience with a very powerful DCM Carvin amp running subs in my PA. (another member bought it) But the new Carvins are not the same...so I can't say. They are the DCM Light series.

The Crown XLS series has been VERY good to me. I have an 802 that just kills. Crown just flat out makes a great amp. Hard to go wrong there.

Thanks for the info, SF!

Why is declining quality becomming so commonplace? That's all I hear now ...... you shoulda got a Mackie before whatever ..... and so on.

Anyway, Crown prices are fair enough!

Ran a bunch of them over the years. All of them sounded great and were bullet proof reliable.

Re: Carvin Power Amps

I've used Carvin PA stuff for years. 4 poweramps, 4 15" monitors, 4 18" bass bins, 2 horns. I've had one poweramp die and a couple tweeters blown out of the monitors but for as much use as I've gotten and the hell I've put this stuff thru in the 15+ years I've owned it I'm pretty happy!
