Carvin X-60 60 watter

Here on the west coast you see a lot of pro players with Carvin amps and it's no wonder , they crank and they deliver at a reasonable $ factor .

I used mine recently at a session ( See " Did A Session " post ) were I ended up doing all sorts of songs from different time periods . One was :

Hoagy Carmichael's " Georgia " . IN the key of " C " and I learned it in " F " but what the ... I adjusted and it worked out better than I imagined it would .

They band playing was a quartet that night , electric Pbass - drums and Chan Romero on keyboards and I on electric guitar .

I was able to take that song into a Blues environment like Willie Nelson took it to CW .

The x-60 Carvin took on the challenge superbly making that song really cry deep and mournfully with distinction . Chan was surprised he never heard my electric guitar playing only my acoustic steel and nylon guitar work . He was most gracious too , saying those Blues chops really brought out the guts in the song as he sung it .

Fat lows and clear and plenty of bite in the midrange & treble tones flowed right out this little bad boy Carvin .

I head Clapton's Corrina Corrina , Big Joe Turners ( live mind you on both ) and many other arrangements on this song , Chan's arrangement was the best I ever heard arranged and sung in my life and I'm 59 . My amp was sweet with just enough distortion to make it emotionally strong , the melodic lines I played and those Chan played pushed up both into this song with power and love .

Can't describe in words how well this amp delivered . So did my guitar but we all know how important the amp is too to the equation huh :) !

I am on the look out for another one of these little brutes to be sure , they arn't made any mo :(

I dig the X-amps. Used one for several years with no complaints. I'm sure Gearjoneser here has a story for you!

:scratchch Carvin gets a lot of guff for being a mail order company, but they do manage to build some very nice gear. Their tube amps cut a lot of corners that more expensive amps don't, but overall they're good sounding tube amps.

Just like every company, they make some great stuff, and some budget gear that leaves something to be desired.

For kicks, I'll still roll out the ole Carvin bash! hahahaha

Hello Gearjoneser :

Here in California they have several showroom stores that are packed to the gills with their stuff and this gives us here a chance to hear the products themselves either by picking up one of there great guitars ( I don't own one but I have had plenty of them in my hands and they are second to none ) and plug in and test the waters full blow amps included .

Many times while I was checking one thing out there were others checking other things Carvin , this is cool too because through those others as I watched and listened I learned about how their other stuff sounded and the reaction(s) of those who were testing their stuff out .

I guess guys like me in California are spoiled to some degree being able to go from one of the other music stores and pick up a LP or a Fender anycaster and or anything there and then go into a Carvin store and see and feel the difference on the spot . This advantage is not unfortunately everyone's and I feel for those with out this option .

The plus on Carvin's side and the customer is their no hassle return albeit you pay the freight but heck you'd have to spend the gas to go return it to a store anyway .

If you look at the pros and semi pros who gig ( a lot ) live in public here who use Carvin here in California it comes off clear that these guy have been around a long time using their old stuff still on stage and being quiet satisfied with what they own and the back up service .

Service - - it's good - - no too pricy and not cheap either via my own personal experience .

When I first started to buy amps and stage gear I went to the guys who I respected who were gigging , their opinions always were positive on Carvin products . Gold is where you find it . Carvin is one of " California's Gold " secrets .
