Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
This category is for best Budget Axe. It could be any of the following:

A really fine pristine low end model
A Pawn Shop purchase of a mid level axe
A mutt/mogrel beater you found

MAX PRICE LIMIT: $300 on INITIAL PURCHASE.
- It's OK if you put $1200 into upgrades after that….

We'll trust you on your submissions here. This is NOT the "I got a PRS24 10 top for $299" at a garage sale from an old lady" category.

Hit the pawn shops this week boys! 3 bills makes it a player in this category.

Closes Sunday July 17th

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

I could easily flood this thread with modded cheepos but I won't. Instead:

#1 BlackMirra '93, sub$300

#2 Hohner L75 '89 (that is maybe '90 due to my recent research), sub$200

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

I have had great luck on Craigslist. Every one of these guitars was $50 or less before improvements:

  • Yamaha Pacifica Tele. New pickguard, string trees, knobs, Fender Deluxe Drive Bridge and Fender 51 Nocaster neck pickup.
  • Yamaha Pacifica Srat. String trees and lace sensor pickups.
  • Squier Tele. String trees, string thru bridge, Fender noiseless bridge and Dimarzio Virtual Vintage 2.1 neck.
  • Yamaha Pacifica Tele. String trees, mirror pickup rings, knobs, Custom 8 bridge and Breed neck.
  • Squier Tele Custom. When I bought it it the electronics didn't work, but it had new tuners, CTS pots and a set of 59's. I sold the pickups, so I'm actually at less $15 ahead on the investment. I added string trees, Rio BBQ bridge and Gibson 490R neck.
  • 90's Charvel Fusion. Repainted with Dean Time capsule bridge.
  • Unknown neck thru shredder. Custom 8 pickup.
  • Squier Vista Series Musicmaster. Entwistel HDN pickup.

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

How 'bout "Scarlet Overkill," my 2015 Epiphone Les Paul Special I P-90 I got back in December?

$99 new
+$70 case
+$35 bridge replacement
================
$204 total

I love this little thing... it's so much fun. The P-90s actually sound great and she plays really well too. I've even considered using her in a gig or two, but to be honest I've been afraid that any guitarist who might be watching would recognize that I was playing a $99 guitar!

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

Paid $180 for it, to a forum bro.

"Stellar" branded LP. Proper non-Gibson headstock, not a counterfeit.
