Dang! I thought I could have this catagory all sewn up. Now I doubt I can even make "also ran" status. Some killer gear/prices here.

Anyway, I'll start with my beautiful Cort CL-1500: (Paid $180)

Then there was the cool old MIJ Ibby that I scored at the flea-market for $55, with case:

Then, an honorable mention to my Daisy Rock, for $100. It gets mentioned because it's basically a Schecter, with a case, and Duncan Slash AII Pro's installed. (The Duncans came installed at the $100 price.)

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

Interesting batch of mutts and mongrels here (and some classy ladies too…)

Please convert all prices to US dollars. I'm lazy. Price IS a consideration here.

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

Between this thread and the 'Oddball' one there are some fabulous instruments, really intersting stuff that look like they have stories to tell. I love the weird and whacky old things, they're all wonderful.

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

For 279 of your earth units of currency, this...

...was turned into this.

All the crappy old hardware was stripped off, and new Grovers, a Seth set, a new harness and a decent TOM and tailpiece was added.

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

Years ago, I traded a friend an ASI Sustaniac guitar I bought for $250 for this:
20160618_145320 (800x430) (640x344).jpg

It's a 100% mutt, but it has a bird's eye maple neck, Pau Ferro fingerboard, decent scallop job from the 10th fret up, German Floyd with a brass block, and a PAF Pro that just kills in this guitar. I've tried a number of other pickups, including a black PAF Pro, but the neon green one always goes back in.

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

here is my entry

1995 MIK Squire strat

Alot of work was done to make all the replacement parts work.. had to drill and fill for the tuners, bridge, and pickguard. The pickguard had to be shaped at the neck/bridge a bit as well.. I also had to widen the humbucker holes because of the covers. Main routing I had to do on the guitar body was on the neck pickup rout and the control cavity.. the neck pup rout was much too shallow and had to be deepened quite and I had to deepen the control cavity a bit where the 5 way switch goes. The guitar has been shielded throughout.

Pickups are an Iron Gear Hot Slag and a Iron Gear Rolling Mills with a series/split parallel mod for each. I also added a bridge always-on and a kill switch as well. Tone control is a DMT tone like my #1 and #2

I still need to add the LSR roller nut i have for her and get a fret level done but she is very playable

I catalog all of my guitars on a excel file with cost, mods, work done with dates and all relevant specs..yep,i hate remembering all this data.. lol

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

$269 with a hardshell

Epi Flake LP, no one ever played this thing. It's a beast weight wise with a big ole '59 style neck but it plays great and sounds really good even with the stock pups

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

Don't know anything about this guitar other than its called a "Mr. Potato". No serial number or anything else on it for an identification. From what I know, some guy builds them and sells them at his music shop in South Korea. I got this at a used guitar store in Falls Chruch VA.

Floyd rose licensed trem, dual blade style single coil p/u's and a quad bladed humbucker of unknown origin. Neck thru body design, looks like a multi wood neck that was painted over.

$200 when I bought it

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

This rare early '90s limited Edition Korean Squire was born as a single HB p'up instrument, which hosted a Duncan JB.

Paid € 75,00 for it. Sold the JB for € 50,00. I did the "swimming pool" route, fretjob and new nut myself. Paid € 125,00 for the EMG S set and new tuners.

Got paid € 500,00 for the recording project the guitar was made for, afterwards I sold it for € 250,00.

How am I doing, Ace? ;)

Ibanez RS315 in pre-clean up condition. A £200 bargain? I think so.

Re: Category #8 Submissions: El Cheapo

I wasn't going to post this guitar as its my main guitar AND I dont consider it "cheap" but i did buy it stock for under $300
replaced the chrome tuners and jt580lp for black versions and added an extra pot.replaced the chrome bell knobs for gold w/red inlay bell knobs

Pickups are an Iron Gear a smokestack II(N) ,pigiron OW(M) and the bridge is a Gibson T-Top dated 1979. Master volume, volume for the neck & middle, and a DMT tone. Master volume pulled is a volume bypass and when the N+M volume is pushed(push/push) its a neck always-on. there is a kill switch. I used shielding tape throughout and used vintage cloth wire

I love this guitar so much that I plan to have a custom guitar made based on its specs w/some improvements/refinements when im able to afford it.. Guitar is perfectly balanced, resonates really well and has an awesome neck with a beautifully dark rosewood board... .720/.810 and has a "D"/flat oval profile....

always stays in tune and rarely breaks a string which is pretty good since i try to play atleast 4 to 5 days a week for atleast 1 hour but sometimes its for 2 to 4 . since i cant work atm, i havent been able to buy any strings and these are probably 9 months old and only broke one. So happen i had a partial set with the right size.. yep.. strings are dead as "sh*t" though

I love this guitar.. like a perfect set of brown titties..

'03 Epiphone Les Paul Standard, best playing guitar I've ever played (and I played a few high end guitars so far) and it sounded sweet too, put a Dimarzio Dominion in it.... it's a beast! rock and metal, she does it so well. perfect setup with low action that's not too low. traded it for my '15 Jackson Dinky and even though I loved this guitar, I really wanted that LP. It's not dead mint but I like it that way. it has been played and loved and now it will be in my hands for a long time - don't plan on getting rid of it ever... and that for about 200 bucks.
