CC output

Is the CC's output really as low as the Tone Chart would have me believe? According to the not-very-useful blue & yellow bars, it's output is lower than the '59!

Side note: Does anyone else think a 1-10 type output scale would be more meaningful?

The tone chart is wrong, the CC has a good stong output, and IMHO works best in the bridge of a Strat style guitar and on some Les Paul style guitars.

d.c. resistance used as an output indicator is kind of a controversial subject on here.

I have spoken with both Scott and Alex as well as MJ about this and they ALL 3 agree that dc ristance is a good rule of thumb when it comes to output. That said there are exceptions! Stacked humbuckers always read very high, and the magnet type can change the apperaent loudness of a pickup (this is why the Custom seems louder that a Custom 5 which seems louder that a Custom Custom). But as far as they are concerned the DC resistance is a pretty good indication of output in most pickups/

hej JB FORM HELL, how are yah my friend?
did isend my clip with cc? no low output there
ahahahahahahahaha
IT IS HIGH
i guess higher than the jb, but Lower than DISTORTION

Re: CC output

The CC is a medium/hot pickup that will drive most amps into overdrive more easily, IMO, than a vintage output pickup like the 59B. It has a thicker tone but doesn't seem alot louder than a 59B...but it does seem to have more output than the 59B. I use them both and have compared them many times. Lew

Re: CC output

I tried a CC in the bridge position of my Strat and personally did'nt care for it. The midrange on the pickup was very, very strong and thick. So loud I thought my speaker was going to blow. I even lowered the pickup so it was even with the pickguard and it was still too much. I'm not knocking it because I've heard some clips here of folks using the CC and that's what prompted me to try one. I thought it sounded great but not for me.

On Bill Lawrence's site, he goes on and on about how DC resistance should NOT be used to compare pups, and is not a decent indication of output or tone.

I guess it's just coincidence that higher output 'buckers have high DC resistance :)

All other things being reasonably equal, DC resistance is a good way of getting an idea of the output of a pickup. But all other things have to be reasonably equal...that's the key. Lew

He's pretty much right.

Re: CC output

Technically maybe, but as a Layman, I can say that the higher the rated DC, the higher the output was on pickups I've used. Coincidentally consistent? I think in general terms its a decent guideline, but not absolute.

The CC is medium-hot, not an EMG 81, but way hotter than the traditional PAF line.
