Celestion 70/80

Re: Celestion 70/80

I have a Crate 4x12 with 70/80's in it and I really like the sounds I get from my JSX. It sounds good at both low and high volumes and has a very good bass and mid response. Come to think of it, it's really a pretty balanced speaker. I haven't had the chance to really crank it past 5 or 6 on the master but even that loud the bass didn't get woofy or fart out or anything and I've got a parametric eq in the loop and the bass is pretty high. Oh yeah, I play really high gain metal like Crowbar, Lamb of God Fear Factory type heavy and they sound great. Cleans and bluesy type stuff sounds really good also. Hope this helps!:fingersx: :smokin:

Re: Celestion 70/80

They are in the newer Tech 21 Trademark 60 and Power Engine 60 (and possibly other Tech 21 products too - haven't checked). I'm happy with the tones I'm getting out of my TM60 and PE60 - they are versatile amps and the speaker seems to handle everything fine. I'm not thinking about changing them. Hard to say much more because I haven't heard them in anything else, or tried the Tech 21s with a different speaker.

Re: Celestion 70/80

They sound really lively from top to bottom, but may start farting out at high levels in an open back cab. It seems to very well with tones below the "fart threshold". Tuning below standard "E", and kicking it with a "dry" (mid-scooped) crunch tone, in an open back situation is hard to do for a lot of different speakers. That is my impression from a Randall 100 watt stereo 2x12.

Pretty much the same here, farts out at high volume in open cabs.

Sounds ****ing awesome at high level before it starts bottoming out on you, though, lol.

I play in C to A so I've got enough low end to blow out about anything, so keep that in mind.

If I ever get a V30 or other speaker somehow I'll swap them out and stuff and make comparisons.
