Celestion Bulldog?

Has anyone ever heard of this Celestion 10" speaker, and has an opinion on it? It may not be called that, though there is a little picture of a bulldog on it and it was used by Vox a whiles back. I'm really interested in throwing a couple of these in my amp but heard they're pretty rare. LET ME KNOW! Thanks

Re: Celestion Bulldog?

Hello Hello-
They were used in the later Thomas Organ Vox amps.....not even close to the Celestion speakers. I'm pretty sure they are CTS or Eminence.

Re: Celestion Bulldog?

I use early/mid 60's Vox Silver Bulldog 12's in my '58 and '59 Fender Deluxes. They are real alnico magnet Celestions like the G12 Celestion Blue the Beatles had in thier Vox AC-30's. But later, Thomas Organ did use some USA made speakers with the Bulldog label on them. They are not the same speaker as the UK made Celestions, and IMO, they don't sound very good. The USA made Bulldogs from the late 60's might be Utahs. Utahs made some of the worst sounding guitar speakers ever...but they were cheap to buy. Fender used them too in many silverface Fender amps from the late 60's and early 70's. Thank goodness most of them are blown by now! I don't know anything about the 10's...probably they are not Celestions. Lew

Re: Celestion Bulldog?

Hello Hello--
I finally remembered that the speakers in question were made by Oxford. The Celestion speaker in England was never referred to as "Bulldog" and the Oxford speaker in America was never called "Bulldog" either. People started calling the Oxfords "Bulldog" as a nickname [because of the dog on the label].

Re: Celestion Bulldog?

That's what I've got in my Cambridge 30. It's a good speaker, I think it would sound better as a 2X10 or 4X10 rather than the 1X10 it is. Good clarity on cleans, however!
