Re: Celestion Speakers and clarity...

The C12K is very nice, but it is a little duller sounding compared to the celestion. And i also found that the efficiency in the celestion is greater, as i can turn it up to 3, and it would be more or less as loud as the c12k at 4-5.

Right now i am totally in love with my clean tone through the G12h30 in my DRRI. My clean sound is typically surfer strat (SSS, pickup switch is wired for 1-bridge-2-neck bridge-3-neck-4-neck middle-5-midde) I use neck and bridge in parallel with the tone on the neck pickup rolled down just a tad and i run it through my analogman comprossor. The compressor is very very very nice and subtle and it results in a rather pleasing tone.

I'm working on a solo arrangement right now, when im done ill post up a recording or something for u dudes! I give lew credit for basically building my sound, the rest is in my hands!

Re: Celestion Speakers and clarity...

The Celestion Seventy80 is a lot less clear than the speakers in my Ashdown, it's just like a night and day difference. The Seventy80 is like...a cheap poorly designed speaker whereas the ashdown ones are a good hifi speaker. The Seventy80 isn't an "acclaimed" Celestion but Celes have never struck me as being very clean speakers, the mids are congested and being so "out and front" it really harms them.

Re: Celestion Speakers and clarity...

I love Celestions, and mostly the Vin 30 and G12H30. I've talked to a lot of amp builders and they love them. I never understood anyone saying they don't like them.

I really don't understand anyone's love for Jensens. They sound like farty crap to me.....and same with most of the Fender type speakers. And even some of the hemp cone uber expensive stuff sounds dark and rigid, so I don't get those either.

In all honesty, I don't have any experience with the better Eminence speakers, but anytime I've taken out a licensed Eminence and replace it with a Celestion, it was an improvement.

I've had 2 Bassman 4-10's. One with licensed Eminence and one with Jensen P12R's, and hated all of them. The low end turned them into mush. One thing I've always wanted to do was put Celestion 10's in a Bassman and prove that they're the best speaker for that amp. Never done it though. I've directly compared a 90's Bassman to a 90's Bassbreaker, which is the same amp, only with 2 Vin 30's. The Bassbreaker is the best sounding Bassman IMO.

The speaker I'm most interested in is the one Jeremy mentioned...the Celestion Gold.
Also, the most praised speaker company currently, Scumback. Everyone I know who loves Celestions REALLY loves the Scumbacks.

I agree re Vin 30s and Fender amps being a good combination. I've used the Vin 30s w/a few Fender Tube amps, and they were wonerfully crisp, and articulate. The breakup was also sweet.

Re: Celestion Speakers and clarity...

I'm lucky enough to have a friend who imports Celestion. I personally have a thing for the greenback and the H30. The V30 can sound great but isn't a great match for any of my current amps. I'm looking forward to hearing the Gold in an incoming 65 1x12 cab.

Another speaker I've liked recently was the mojotone greenback clone that i tried in a Swart AST. Interestingly enough Swart uses real greenbacks for his uprated, 30w Super Spacetone.

As for Jensens, I have a pair in my Victoria, and they do the tweed-authentic thing very well. I also had a good relationship with the eminence jensen alnico 10 clones in my old vibolux, particularly when feeding EL84 amps into them. I did a tour where I took the vibrolux along as a speaker cabinet fo my Mesa, and it consistently sounded excellent.

Speakers are flavours to mix and match, like guitars, amps, tubes and pedals. It's good to have a few options around.

I like my G12T-75's in my marshall cab. A little scooped for me, but it does help me from driving my mids too far! I really like how versatile it is and when you push it...it really barks!

I currently have 2 V30's on there way to go into the 2x12 cab I'm building. Can't wait to get those going!

D-EJ195...the seventy80 is garbage IMO.
