could someone compare the 10 inch Celestion vintage 10 to the 12 inch celestion vintage 30? they seem to have a similar eq range (by the celestion site). anything would be helpful

i'm thinking about getting the vox ad30vt and i've read that the speaker was the weakest link in the chain. I like the sound of the 30 and i was wondering if the 10 had a similar sound to it. and this is all down the road a good ways, being that i'm getting married in like 10 days, gotta sell my halfstack and a few effects before i buy anything new. Just trying to map out the road ahead of me. thanks

I was lucky I didn't have to sell any gear when I got married. Does she support your....habit :laugh2:
On the speaker though Lew will be the most educated opinion I imagine. I have got to the point where I LOVE my 10s. But they are b@stard Dr. Z designed with an eminence frame, celestion voice coil, and weber dust cap.
The speaker itself is done in house I think. If you wanted a very sensitive speaker that (to me) has V30 characteristics (lots of mids slightly compressed) I'd say give it a try too. I promis one day as soon as I can get someone to host it I'll post some sounds samples.

thanks man. it's not that i HAVE to sell it. i can keep it if i want. but i WANT to sell it. We are going to live in an apartment and i will not be on stage anymore so i just said screw it and i'll sell it. I also really don't want to carry it upstairs. and the whole moving factor in like 7 months .... the less junk the better.

I have only owned one Celestion Vintage 10 speaker and I was very disappointed in it. I LOVE 12" Vintage 30's, Celestion G12 Alnico Blues and G12H-30's. But the V10 sounded weak, low in efficiency and not very ballsy compared to other 10's.
Celestion makes my favorite 12's and Ted Weber makes my favorite 10's.
Ted has changed his numbering scheme but the 10" speaker I would recommend he used to call a C10Q. He changed the number to something else because the Weber C10Q has much better tone and a much bigger magnet than the Jensen C10Q many confused it with.
It is a terrific 10" speaker and I prefer it over any other new ceramic magnet speaker I have owned, including the Weber C10N and C10NQ. Those two use the same magnet as the Weber C10Q but have a larger voice coil and, IMO, lack the smooth but textured and complex treble response of the Weber C10Q.

Everyone's different, but I think the speaker on the ad30vt is just fine. It's reponsive, breaks up easy and is nice & dirty. That amp is fun just the way it is. Dirty is the best word I can think of to describe it. It's a fun toy-amp. What's funny is that for such a cheap price and what is IMO cheap looking, this thing inspires & improves my playing. It's ideal for home use.
I don't know what gear you currently have, but I'd love to have a dollar for every time I've heard "I wish I hadn't sold that amp or that guitar." I would think long and hard before selling gear. Infact I would think LONG AND HARD before getting married. Just kiddin'. Congratulations!!! :13:

thanks everyone. my decision to sell is more or less a practicality issue. Don't NEED a halfstack therefore get rid of it (its a solid state crate). I've been moving away from effects therefore get rid of them. I'll keep my guitars ... no one is getting those. and maybe my zoom 505 II, and Ibanez Lo-Fi. Pretty much everything else goes.
