Yeah, series and parallel are supposed to have different tones... I don't have my amp books here so I can't tell which are. But, if you think in safety the parallel it's better. If a speaker from a 2x12 cabinet blows up and they are wired parallel mode the amp will be running with with and unmached impedance. That'll let you time to go an turn it off. If the speakers are wire in series that'll be a dead amp and that it isn't good at all!!!

lol exactly - i dont mind how it sounds that badly, i want it alive after 3 weeks hehe

thats the problem, im in the UK.. thanks for the offer thames, but customs would tear me a new ass if it didnt arrived damaged hehe :smack:

looks like im gonna have to just find a vintage 30 and play through it for a while, i gotta raise some cash first :laugh2:

I think the 75s explain your findings of being harsh...They are harsh to me in the mids and they aren't a classic rock/blues LOL
I don't like the mid reproduction of that speaker either. If you don't like up-front mids then it might be a good choice though. I think they sound ok in an open back.

Here's another vote for the G12H, since you want higher wattage than the greenback.

Also, I have a Weber Blue Dog 50 watter that is also a nice speaker for that kind of tone. It's normally a 30 watt speaker, but I got a 50w version at no extra cost. I think it was $90.

Re: CELESTIONS - any fans?

Don't worry about the wattage......Vintage 30's are actually a 'buzz word'. They're actually 70 watt speakers. Look at the back of a Vintage 30 4-12 cabinet. It's rated at 280W.

Re: CELESTIONS - any fans?

I really like the G12M-70's .
They're no longer made though. I'm not sure what replaced them.
Very popular speaker in the 80's.

More smooth sounding tone with pronounced mids.
Great for soloing.

My JCm 800 combo has one. I think it is a little bright at times.

Mine are in a 4x12 cab. Size and closed back could make a difference.

I'd go with the Celestion G12K-100s

They are 100 watts and 8ohms. They are great speakers and will handle the your amp well.

Re: CELESTIONS - any fans?

I've had my 1960AV with Vintage 30's for a few months now and have gigged with it and all, and to tell you the truth, I am pretty impressed with the sound. Very classic. Best cab Marshall makes. Haven't tried any other celestions though.

True it would be a big difference. I though about taking the speaker out and puting it in a 1x12 cab. I am too cheap for a 4x12

Wow....An anti-Marshall amp guy? You're in the small minority...I'm a Fender/Marshall guy,but it's only because it suits my music styles...

eh I'm not really anti-marshall. I dig them and I'd use them. But I do feel they are overpriced and it's a type of tone that often gets overused. I think personally I like things a little bit different. I dig my Carvin Legacy for that reason. I can get awesome cleans out of it and some really interesting lead tones. I definately dig Fender amps though.
