Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

JumpMarine

18 watts of Mayhemologist
My buddy Keith picked one up off of ebay for only $140. He popped it into his '68 Princeton which had a G12H30 in it. We a/b'd the speakers after he mounted the G12H30 in another Princton cab that he had for good comparison. The G12H30, while it still sounded good did have noticable lowend flub compared to the tightness and bell like tones out of the Blue. I was astounded at how tight the Blue was. At 15 watts, I figured that it would have lost some low end when the cone broke up. But I was so wrong, when the cone broke up it was produced the sweetest smooth growl with much tighter lowend than the G12H30. For me personally, The H30 is still my favorite speaker, but the Blue.....I really want a pair for myself now.

Re: Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

I'm considering a Blue/ G12H30 combo in a 2x12 cab

Re: Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

After saying all that, how is the H30 your fave?

Mainly because of it being a 30 watt speaker and not 15 for versatility as the single speaker with different output amps and simple cost. I'd love to hear what a 4x12 with Blues sounded like or better yet a pair with my 18 watt.

I bet that would sound killer! And they should match even better than the G12M(98db)/G12H30(100db) as they are both 100db.

Look into the weber blue dog copy of the original blues (better then the reissues) and available in many wattages and cheaper and better quality then celestion reissues.
Cant wait for my blue pup (10" version) to arrive!

Aha!!

I was thinking of a G12H30 and Eminence Red Fang in a 412 cab in 'X' pattern!

The red fang handles 30 watts and I think it is very close to the celestion alnico in tone. Jeremy can tell us more about that, since I think he uses the red fang.

I don't even own the Alnicos (have a few friends with them and have been able to try them out), but I've owned Blue Dog and Silver Bell combos in the past and they don't compare. I wish they were truly "better" than the Alnicos (they'd certainly be cheaper), but no such luck from my experience.

The Alnico Blues are the top of the line speaker by Celestion and IMHO they're perfect for lower powered amps. If I didn't play through a massive 80w amp, I'd be all over them because they seem to bring about the most amazing chime and gritty rock and roll tones.

Re: Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

Has anyone tried the new Gold yet, it's 50 watts I believe.

Re: Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

Someone has to sit compare the two celestions and the red fang one after the other.... and ther report back :D

Re: Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

hmm, i wonder how that alnico gold would sound though i think my ears are ceramic only by now, hehe.

Re: Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

My Dr. Z, MAZ 38 has a pair of Celestion Blues in it, and they sound awesome! If I ever get my '77 Fender, Deluxe Reverb working right, it will get a Blue in it.

Sorry I shouldnt really jump to conclusions as i havent tried the webers yet but i've heard many people who while the celestion blues are good they arent as good as the originals (which i have heard) and have heard people say the webers are closer but like i said im yet to hear them so i probably shouldnt be so judgemental.

Re: Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

I agree: I've got ToneTubby, CelestionVintage10" and EminanceLegend speakers available at the flick of a switch but I almost NEVER use anything but my Celestion Blue.

Re: Celstion Alnico Blue......Whoa!!!

do you guys think my Crate V1512 would blow one of those? its rated at 15 watts but distorted it gets noticably louder than my friend's blues junior
