Celtic Amps Edana Update

About to ship my first one.

I've added two important features, well important to me at least.

1. I put a bias switch on the bottom to allow you to switch the bias range for EL34 or KT66 power tubes. The amp will still need a re-bias, but the bias ranges will be correct. There is an external bias adjustment pot that you can slip a small screwdriver into without pulling the chassis.

2. I put a Bitch Switch on the back. Sort of a PMS mode. Gets a bit closer to the Plexi tone. Adds some hair, <insert colorful metaphor here>, etc.,.

To Quote the Website:

"I've also added a "Bitch" switch on the back. This switch will bump up the Plexi-factor and Edana will get a bit bitchy. I'd put it on mine, so I'll put it on yours. Just a bit more bite in her bark! "

That's it. Cheers:beerchug:

Re: Celtic Amps Edana Update

Well, Edana is a woman's name. I'd guess a nutkicker switch would be appropriate. But truth be told, nutkicker implies something TubeScreamer-ish to me. This is more subtle than that. Not that PMS has ever been subtle in my universe. ;)

Re: Celtic Amps Edana Update

Sounds great, Scott. I'm sure we'll be amongst the first to hear sound clips of this bad girl. ;)

Re: Celtic Amps Edana Update

Like anyone's gonna believe a guy that just spent the equivalent to Spain's Gross National Product on camera gear, but still can't post any pictures. Silly rabbitt.

The Bitch Switch isn't enough of a gain boost to be worth the effort of foot switching. IMHO of course.

Re: Celtic Amps Edana Update

"The B!tch Switch"......it's a real nutkicker!!!!!

Sounds worthy of an actual pedal!!!:laugh2:

:laugh2: That is most likely true. By the way Scott, how close to a plexi-ish tone would you say the Edana is? I'm starting to become interested in these amps....

Can't wait for you to get that amp armotron, you definatlyhave to post some clips(if possible).

Re: Celtic Amps Edana Update

There really isn't that much dfference between the circuits. The Plexi splits the first preamp tube up in a way that it gives each channel a more unique feel, rather than the normal and bright channels of the JTM45 which are pretty common fender design. (Marshall stole the bassman circuit to make his JTM45)

Put some EL34's and a Weber Copper Cap rectifier and you're pretty close. Turning it into a true plexi is pretty easy actually.

I think I'd like to try the plexi front end with the JTM45 power section. The KT66 tubes really sound good with the 5AR4 rectifier.

Good stuff no matter where you turn.
