Celtic Franklin!

Re: Celtic Franklin!

I truly believe the 30 watt versus 15 is not as big an issue. Let Steve comment on how loud this guy is...

But I am building it, just have to take care of a couple of customers first.

Re: Celtic Franklin!

Damn... that sounds really good!

Not enough gain, though :p.

Re: Celtic Franklin!

OK we don't need to confuse this amp with a "high gain" amp. This amp is very articulate with purity. It has lots of headroom and it really comes to life with the master volume cranked. It is definitely one of the few amps that I have played through that really clean up when you roll off the guitar volume or back off of the force that you put on the strings.
I have played through many amps that do high gain well, and others that are very clean, but I'm impressed because this amp gets that middle ground that is great for classic rock and blues.

Re: Celtic Franklin!

how loud is this thing? do i even want to think about the 30w or am i going to end up with another amp thats a little too loud?

Hehe you know I was just kidding, Steve. Killer production on the recording, as well; I'm especially impressed with the kick and snare sound you got out of it. What are you using as far as mic's/pre's?

Here's a quick blues clip: franklin blues
DSS :) I am using a single sm57 and acid loops for drums and bass. I also have some misc drum samples that I've picked up here and there. I mess around with them until I get something I like.

I am pretty sure you would like the 15 watter Jeremy. It has a sweet spot right around band volume.. considering that your drummer is not a total ape man :laugh2: The headroom is up there. You can compensate for lower volume with the master/pre setup if you want earlier breakup.

Re: Celtic Franklin!

Wow!!! Really impressive songwriting and execution, and pretty stellar tone. I'm revisting the Celtic Amps site now.

On the blues clip, that's my 77 LP Standard, currently with a Seth Lover bridge pickup and a jazz neck pickup. I am only using the jazz pickup here.
**
recorded mono with no effects
plugged in to high input
mic was pointed at the edge of the cone
master volume 50%
regular volume 25%
bass at 25%
treble 60%

Like I said before "A perfect little Club amp"
I agree :) Especially if you are playing on one of those small (almost non-existent) stages that we all know and love :laugh2:

Re: Celtic Franklin!

Very cool stuff. The tone was very very nice and the guitar's voicings were so easy to listen to. Very cool tune with a magnetic hook.
:bigthumb:

Re: Celtic Franklin!

Are all the guitar tracks on the first example recorded with the Franklin? All dry with no distortion or boost? Just the amp?

If so, I need one. That sounds awesome.
