Truth is most folks really don't know...
Most of the guys that use Klon clones have never used a real Klon and most guys that use a real Klon won't even look at a clone...
The only way a pedal can be a clone is to have everything be 100% identical, and so far no pedal company I know of has infringed on Klon in that way.
I've used an original gold/centaur logo Klon for 10 years, and while I've owned and tried many other OD's that can cop the sound, none of the others have the tubey feel under the fingers that the Klon has. That's something everyone overlooks when they listen to clips.
All the usual posturing, conjecture, and misinformation here. I agree, mainly, with the above. There are part for part clones of a Klon out there and they sound just like a Klon but most players that know refuse to admit to themselves or anyone else...
There are no mojo parts in a Klon, there is nothing in there thats hard to get or work with.
The biggest difference between most clones and a real Klon is that most clones out there are not true bypass and feature a buffer and most clones are true bypass...
There is definitely something in the circuit that makes it difficult to copy, however.
One thing I like about the Klon is how it thickens your tone.
