Change Humbucker Coil Colour?

Is there any possible way to do it?

Say you wanted to have a white/black humbucker. How could you change one black coil to white?

Is there any type of paint that would look decent and wouldn't peel off? I know there are stickers but they don't usually fit and they can look really tacky...

Are you forced to buy a new pickup? :blackeye:

Somebody had this question a month or two ago and someone posted this link where you could by decals that went over the coils. They looked decent.

What about this:

I take the humbucker apart so that I have the two seperate coils. I pry the black top off one of the coils, and then stick a white one on. I would buy the white coil top from the SD factory if possible, or just buy a really cheap humbucker and force it off that.

Do you think I'd be able to do it without ruining the coil?

Tose decals are called "bobbin toppers." A google search will turn up the site from which you can buy them pretty easily. I've never been convinced of just how decent they looked, though. Maybe if it was for a stage instrument and the stage was far enough away from a crowd that was drunk enough...

As for the second idea...sounds awfully risky and I'm not entirely sure that the top of the bobbin comes off in the way that you're describing. Maybe it does, though.

I always heard that you had to do a rewind to do this. And get a new different colored bobbin.

We have a forum brother that does not come around much anymore...he used a bobbin topper to make a double cream JB...it looks pretty damn good to me!

It does, if you have a big enough screwdriver . . . regardless if it was designed that way or not. :laugh2:

Here is my Pearly Gates (b) in the neck position. It is a double black pickup with one coil with a bobbin topper.
