Change Seth in a LP to what?

I have been using a Seth Lover in my Edwards Jimmy Page LP fir some time and while it sounds pretty great, there are times when I find myself wanting thicker sound. Just a little more meat. I love the articulation and feel of the Seth, just a slightly bigger version would be great.

I have the stock pup, a SH-5 Custom and a 59-B to try.

Do any of you pickup pro's have any comments between these 3 pickups?

I'd try a Seth in the neck and Custom in the bridge next.

The 59B is great too - I use one and it's worth a try...but I prefer the Custom.

I would kick it up to the 59b first.

I also really like the Custom, but do you think that might be a bit much? Or will the 59 not be enough compared to the Seths? I'm not really "Seth" experienced Lew....

The Custom isn't all that "hot". Duncan used to describe it as a "59b on steroids". I think of it as a muscled up 59 with a little more output and thicker mids...a little more aggressive than a regular 59b but it's not like it's some steroid soaked professional wrestler or anything! :lmao: They're both great pickups but the Custom has a little more of the modern sound...but I'm a vintage kinda guy and I use it. My prediction:

You wont like the '59. It won't give you the meat you want.

The Duncan Custom you will like but find a little harsh and not articulate enough. Which will be fixed by going to a Custom 5 (you can stuff the magnet from the '59 in if you want).

Let us know how it turns out.

I'd try either the '59B or the C5, both with 250K's, which will take off the worst of the treble & bring out the mids. The C5 will be a little warmer and distort sooner. Either one will work, but it depends if you want the PAF sound or something a little hotter.

The Custom is probably what you're wanting to hear. A hotter version of the 59 seems to be the Custom 5, if you want it hot but open.

For LP's, the Custom and Custom 5 are really hard to beat. They're like a fist hitting your amp, but in a toneful way.

Thanks for all the responses! I am gonna try the 59 tonight because it's the easier of the 2 to hook up.

The Custom was stock in the guitar and I remember it's color coding being a little different than the usual (white & red together, black-hot, green-ground). It's an Edwards LP bought in Japan. Do any of you know what the proper color coding is?

I know that white & black is one coil and Red & green is the other, but I am not sure white two leads to solder together. help?

Red and white together. Green and shield to ground. Black is hot. You had it right with the description of the Custom.
