I was just toying around with the idea and I just thought I'd ask IF its possible and what work would be required??

You can get a set of THD Yellowjackets and a set of EL84 tubes and plug them in...no mods needed!

Hey Sleeping...I was toying with the idea in my mind for the hell of of it, but I would likely go the other way toward the pair of more linear 6L6's, or 6550's if I could. I think I am addicted to 6550 "boom". I am satisied with the low volume tone of my .50 Caliber + so far.
Each EL84 runs about 11 Watts max, compared to about 25 watts max for a 6L6. The early Mesa .50 Cal used four EL84's, so they have less potential for total volume, but EL84's are loved for their sweetness at lower volumes.
Let me know if you try the Jellow Jackets! I have the head model, so I do not know if there is enough room to fit them in vertically (without carefully removing/re-installing the chassis first?).
