Charlie Christian Pickup

Anyone know of a good one for the neck?

I know Jason Lollar makes one and looks like the SD Custom Shop can make one.

Any others? Any experience?

Re: Charlie Christian Pickup

I have a clone made by a german winder. There are some variants with straight, curved or part blade, but i hear more mids and less emphasis on the low and high strings giving chording friendly neck sound.

I have a clone made by a german winder. The strongly curved blade make a greater distance on the outer strings. More mids and less emphasis on the low and high strings give chording friendly neck sound.

Thanks for the info–do you remember who the winder was?

Looking to put in the neck of a semi-hollow build.

No, he is out of business, but the pickup (humbucker sized with curved blade) is in my drawer. PM me if that is what you are looking for.

Kinman makes noiseless one. Pretty rare.

For a couple years I used the Lollar Charlie Christian neck on a Telecaster I had (later their bridge version too, I think it's called the BS (blade style)). It's a cool pickup, kind of on the dark side of the spectrum but not muddy. I remember using it with 250k pots but I had bypassed the tone pot for the neck pickup (otherwise it was too dark). It's very oldschool and delivers a nice, jazzy, fat warm tone. I would not recommend that pickup if you're after a modern, versatile tone (I mainly play rockabilly, swing, country, and it works great for that though).

You can hear it here:

Thank you very much! You are describing what I'm looking for–fat warm tone without getting muddy with an old school tone. Not wanting it for modern stuff, mainly for fingerstyle playing (warm but clear.)

Not a Jazz player but I really like the tone I hear from Charlie Christian pickups that I've heard.

Thank you for sharing! Very nice tone and excellent playing!

I expect a full review with pictures.

Provided I can make it work, most definitely...and will do clips.
