Charvel Model 5 tremolo replacement

I got this guitar, Charvel Model 5, in pretty good shape, everything on the guitar is original, but the previous owner put some fake and cheap licensed floyd rose on it. because i really dig the guitar, the price was fair, and it's in pretty good condition i am thinking about getting a better tremolo floyd rose unit in the future. right now i will just block the tremolo because it sucks.. i looked on thomann and prices of original floyd roses are too much of investement to put on a guitar for me. on the other side there are some shaller floyd roses on thomann for half the price of original floyd rose unit. i would handle the investement in some schaller floyd rose, but i yd Rdon't know which one will fit in a guitar. are the dimensions the same? the original unit on this guitar was jackson floyd rose tremolo JT6. i also think about getting used floyd rose 1000, which i have in my other guitar LTD 1001 Deluxe and the tunning stability on this one is awesome. so, are there any of Schaller copies, alternatives of the Original Floyd Rose?

Re: Charvel Model 5 tremolo replacement

The Schaller and Original Floyds are almost identical except that the string retainer screws on the Original are longer. Since a Charvel Model 5 doesn't have a recessed rout, that difference won't matter. I can't speak for the licensed Floyd on there, but I did need to modify the rout slightly when I put an Original Floyd on my Model 2. The collar on an original Floyd is slightly wider than the JT-6, so the bridge wouldn't settle all the way down at first.

Re: Charvel Model 5 tremolo replacement

Thanks for info. i think i am just gonna block it for now, and later replace it maybe if i found something used.

So he put a ****ty one on, but then you mention the jt6. Does it look like new studs? OFR has the same stud spacing as the jt6. However, putting in new studs is easy, you can really put whatever you want on there.

So, i blocked that floyd and put some thicker strings on it. the nut screws are terribly loose so the nut definately needs replacement to lock properly. i was looking into schaller lockmeister floyd. for now i am just gonna leave it, and later decide about replacement.. the neck plays like butter, i really like the feel and playability of the whole guitar so i think i am gonna try some schaller floyd replacement in the near future.

The LockMeister is an awesome choice. I managed to score 2 of them and have been very pleased. I've reviewed them on my site previously. The only other option I'd consider would be a German Floyd, be it a regular one or the 1984 variant.
