Charvel Model 6

JB_From_Hell

Jomo's Nimions
I got one yesterday, and I hereby repent everything I've EVER said about what makes a good instrument. Toss all the crap I said before out the window, and replace it with all things Charvel/Jackson.

I've gone to the darkside, and couldn't be happier :firedevil

Re: Charvel Model 6

I have a model 4.
I am extremely tempted to use WFD's line but I'll let him say it :smack:
Amazing guitars those Charvel model series are.

Re: Charvel Model 6

You better be happy, you schmuck! Does it have a JT-6 or a Kahler?

Pics! now! Or at least tell us the color!

Re: Charvel Model 6

I'm working on the pics... for now, here's the details...

It's an '87, Black Cherry, and 10/10 dead mint. The guy I bought it from bought it new, gigged it twice, didn't like the tremelo, so it's sat in the case for 18 years! For those who don't know the specs, it's maple/rosewood neck thru, poplar wings, Mother of Pearl inlays, bound neck & headstock, 24 jumbo frets, Jackson JT-6 trem (non-recessed), 2 Jackson J-200 stacked buckers, a Jackson J-80 or 90 bridge bucker, and a JE-1200 mid boost.

It's totally stock, and staying that way (by choice). I've got an original Floyd, Lil '59 and TB-5 sitting here, all of which were meant to go in this guitar, but arel gonna get sold instead. The trem works just as well as the OFR, and the pickups are all great. The bridge pickups sounds somewhere in between a JB & a Custom.

Rather than a Fender or Gibson style pickup selector, there is an on/off switch for each pickup, located directly under the volume/tone/mid knobs. I was really turned off by that at first, but am growing to like it. It takes a little getting used to, but it's not nearly as inconvenient as I assumed it'd be.

The only thing I intend to do is replace the strap buttons with either DiMarzio Clip-Loks, or Schallers. I'm not gonna take a chance on dropping this thing! :D

Re: Charvel Model 6

I found out something weird, it's that I get really sweet clean tones using the bridge and middle positions together on my 4. Give it a try, I'm curious as to what other people think!

Re: Charvel Model 6

Schallers!

It's great that you're happy with that completely stock. It only fuels my GAS more to get one!

+1, purple charvels are awesome!!!

Re: Charvel Model 6

Yep, those are killer guitars. I still swear that my 650xl is my best playing and best sounding guitar I have ever owned or played. And I own and have played some high end stuff. My biggest complaint about those JT-6 trems are the location of the fine tuners. That's why I like the Schaller on my 650. Otherwise, those guitars are the ****.

Re: Charvel Model 6

I love old Charvel's and Jacksons from the late 80's early 90's! I only have a 1987 Model 1 and 2 1994 Dinky's but they are great super strats! I will buy more in the future for sure but i am seeing less and less of them! Same with Kramers from the 80's... Kramer must of sold millions of Kramers over their 80's haydays and i never see any good ones up for sale in Toronto area stores.

650's basically the same as a Model 6, right?

Yeah, the 650 was the updated model 6. Toothpaste logo, 5 way switch, Schaller Floyd, matching headstock, otherwise the same.

If you ever decide to get rid of it... :D

Re: Charvel Model 6

Congrats! I had the exact same guitar..color and all.

I didn'r care for the pups myself, but it was a fantastic guitar otherwise

Re: Charvel Model 6

As stupid as this sounds, I swear I can play faster on this thing!
I don't think that sounds stupid!

I'm gettin' a guitar with a floyd and a thin neck myself shortly... If I can't play faster on it, then I want my money back :13:
