Very true and 100% correct...when they started in about 79ish, they used a vintage Fender neck as a template, and they used the 2 1/8" neck heel as a "standard".
I think they found that with that size, there wasn't a lot of room for error with the strings falling off the necks, and with the advent of the Floyd Rose and Kahler trems, it became necessary to increase the heel accordingly for that purpose.
Charvel was weird though, there are a lot of simmilarities, but more differences between them. Never say Never in Charvelland. Anything was possible.
When the transition was, I can't say exactly. The Heineken Strathead from the 81 Winter NAMM was a 2 3/16" heel width.
