Charvel San Dimas USA vs. Custom Shop

I'm interested in looking into a Charvel San Dimas. Anyone have any experience with comparing the USA production models to the Custom Shop? Big difference? Worth the extra $$$?

I've not owned one of the new SD's but have owned a custom shop piece. The custom shop piece was great and you can't go wrong there.

The CS will blow the production models out of the water in every aspect.

But it will cost twice as much or more and make you wait for (usually) over a year to get it, wheras the other is "Cheap" and "here now" ;)

IMO the CS is worth every penny.

wow the wait is that long for a custom piece? i guess this would be realistic since it is charvel and they probably get tons of requests but ****...

Right. Since I'd be paying double or more I wanted to make sure it's worth it. I was thinking of ordering from an online authorized dealer from what they have in stock (like The Music Zoo) so the wait won't be an issue.

btw... I'm assuming the same goes for Jackson? I typically play Les Pauls these days (custom shop) but I'm in need of a floyd-rose equipped rock machine for 80's metal and such so I'm looking into going the Charvel/Jackson route. I've owned USA Jacksons before and have always been pleased.

^^ Yes, jackson and Charvel are the same company.

BUT: IMO the quality difrference between a USA select Jackson and a CS will be slightly lower that from a production Charvel to a CS, but the USA select is also a tad more expensive. It´s not major in any way, minor fit and finish issues that generally don´t impact palyability or tone. But for ex the frets are not ultra-high polished, the buffing isn´t quite as good... but in no way "bad", esp. considering they go for <1k street price ;)
