So I decided to keep the Ibanez..and return the Jackson...because of the Ibanez's better feel and sound through my Vox valvetronix.
The night before last I was playing the Ibanez quite a bit and started to hear this rattling sound through the amp at times. Intermittent. I checked all the screws on the bridge, pickups, tuners, nut, etc. I finally figured out it was the actual fine tuners..they have a slight back and forth play to them, and whenever I hit a full chord hard...brrrrip....rattle through the amp..quite annoying.
Then I started hearing another rattle a few minutes later, but it wasn't coming through the amp. As I'm taking the guitar off I hear/pinpoint it to a loose neck bolt...but the neck bolt is tight..the bushing is rattling. I unloosen the neck bolt and try to retighten. Still rattles :smack: :yell:
That was the last straw :blackeye: Jackson went back to GC today, Ibanez ships on monday.
Decided to just put out more $ for a better quality instrument and headed to SamAsh yesterday morning with a mission. After playing a few different things, I ended up walking out with a Chrome Blue Fender American Strat with a first for me: Maple fretboard.
"Blue" played great off the shelf (and will improve with a proper setup). This thing drips tone and really projects, I guess cos there is no Floyd. Stock pickups are pretty impressive:can't put the Korean Duncans or the Powersounds anywhere near the same category. I totally nailed Gary Moore's bridge fender strat tone off Corridors of Power/VotF/WWM with the tone control rolled back to 7 through the UK modern model on the Valvetronix.
Fit and finish on the body, neck, fretboard, etc is just awesome. Paint job is very good.Hopefully this one will stay in one piece and I can get back to practicing and playing
It's so nice to get a "real" Strat back in my hands, it's what I wanted to begin with but didn't want to shell out the $ for. I've really missed my old 94 Deluxe Strat Plus, and this new one feels like a comfy old pair of shoes.
One thing I do have a question on though for the Strat/Pup gurus.....because of the angled bridge pickup, will a lil 59/lil Demon,Hot Rails, or JBjr. get a little too bassy? When I put the JB in my old DSP, I bought a HSS pickguard.
