Cheap, rockin superstrat..... suggestions

Basically, I'm a blues guy that has been playing in a death metal band for the past three months :jester:
Although it's not really my kind of music, I'm having a blast playing with my friends. I have a strat that I love, but it's not working with that much distortion. All that I'm looking for is a "bang for the buck" guitar (300 or so dollars?). Any opinions?

Re: Cheap, rockin superstrat..... suggestions

Is there a Godin that might fit the bill?

That should be plenty DEATH METAL for you.
It'll match your death metal face paint.

Or you could just be Joe ordinary and go..

Except for the fact that Immortal are BLACK METAL... (and black metal people wear the face paint)

Insolent fool!

Re: Cheap, rockin superstrat..... suggestions

hahah I hate metal subcategories. It's kinda funny when your friends fight over Amon Amarth being Viking metal or not and whether that's even a musical denomination, or it's just because of the way they look, and if they even draw anything from folk music of those areas. I just have a thing against labels I guess lol.

But nothing beats the famous "I play in a Emo melodic melancholic post-hardcore band with progressive death thrash punk metal influences with a bit of New Wave of British Heavy Metal and 80's sunset strip glam guitar soloing meets Gothenburg melodic soloing."

Labels, are for losers.

Cheap Jackson Dinky hardtails are pretty nice except for the heel, but with a strat you probably wou;dnt mind.

Slap a humbucker in that strat. that'd be cheaper

Re: Cheap, rockin superstrat..... suggestions

For a cheaper superstrat, I would definitely recommend the Ibanez RG321MH. The quality is very good for the price ($280). Two humbuckers, a mahogany body, and a fixed bridge. One of the hidden gems, IMO.

3nz, if you think that differentiating between death and black metal is splitting hairs, then you don't know jack about metal.

Just let me say you really REALLY get what you pay for in the superstrat realm. A cheap superstrat just isn't even worth the hassle IMO.

Re: Cheap, rockin superstrat..... suggestions

I didn't mention death/black metal. I mentioned how stupid it sounds when people take 3 hours to list the music they play and how stupid it is when people argue about things like the Amon Amarth example above.

I forgot, Godin makes a freeway with EMGs and another one with a single EMG 81 since someone asked

Re: Cheap, rockin superstrat..... suggestions

load up a new pickguard for your strat with some killer hot pickups

put the output jack hot and ground/bridge wires on a coupla 'quick disconnects' so you can swap between pickguards at will without resoldering

good luck

How DARE you put Progressive, Death and Thrash... and METAL... and SOLOING... in with Emo.

What the hell??

Also I agree on the different pickguard thing.

You could also look for a used ESP EC series w/EMG 81/85 or Duncan JB/'59 combo. Another is a Dean '79 V or Z(Explorer) shape. Get rid of the stock p/us though. I'm not biased or anything.

I also think that making a modification to a good guitar is better then buying a cheap guitar.

Anyway, search for a cool used guitar - Charvel, Ibanez, Jackson, Washburn... get a Mexican Strat with a good neck for modern music (medium jumbo frets and rather thin contour) and put a hot pickup in the bridge position...
