Cheap Tube Head?

I bought mine new from Sweetwater about 3 years ago. It cost me $300 shipped for the head & 1X12 cabinet in black, which looks much better IMHO!!! I'm not sure if it was because they were going with the ivory ones or what the deal was but normally just the head is $300? Since I bought it I've put at least a hour of playing time on it pretty much every day & I've never had any issues at all! If you look around you can still find them in black but the ivory ones sound just as good!!!

Re: Cheap Tube Head?

Yeah before I decided to start building my own tube amps, I was going to buy that Ibanez TubeScreamer head. I think I would have been very happy with it if I decided to go that route. Very simple 6V6 design that sounds fantastic. I don't know why it hasn't become one of the most popular amps available.

Wow, I really do have to check it out... I will asap! :D

Are the cleans just as loud as the dirty tones? How does it take pedals? How does it compare to a micro/tiny terror or a tweaker?

Re: Cheap Tube Head?

Can't go wrong with a Windsor. Keep in mind that tube doesn't automatically mean good. I've played some truly awful all tube amps. Try some amps out, don't get some off brand crap just because it's cheap and has tubes.

Re: Cheap Tube Head?

Well it's pretty much a standard clean-circuit amp that has a built-in Tube Screamer pedal. It will overdrive at it's limits but it is made to be a great clean channel for use with pedals for distortion/overdrive.

I'm not a fan of the Orange "micro tiny" amps at all - just not my thing so I'm the wrong one to ask. The Tweaker is cool and very versatile, but again just didn't float my boat for whatever reason.
