Cheapest good electric

My cousin is looking for a extremely cheap guitar because his just a poor college student. I know that is going to be very tough to do with low prices, especially at limit around $60. I don't know of any new guitars that cheap that may be okay, so used should be way he should go. I had him confirm that he wanted a strat shaped guitar, so I'm just guessing a used squire or strat copy would work. If you guys have any other suggestions I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Mid to late 80's Made In Japan Fender Squire Strats.

I have about a dozen of them.

Just keep your eyes open for them on Ebay.

I'd hold off and save the $60... keep saving! Watch Pawn shops and used guitar stores...

Thats exactly what I told my cousin, $60 won't get you much quality-wise guitar.

It was definitely playable just after some cleaning up and a good setup. The pickups weren't the greatest, but good pickups are in the $60 range.

Hey Jackson, how much did that project cost you? It turned out really nice. I don't generally like wood-finished electrics, but your's is nice.

By how much did the project mean, I meant after the $60. Later!

Re: Cheapest good electric

i would save a little bit and then go for a squier or used squier.
some of them are not bad. just go to shop with him and take
a look at it.

@jackson. nice job - even if i like that white, which the strat had.
but who did the sticker work? that's some sort of criminal ^^

Re: Cheapest good electric

NO QUESTION.

Save up 110 more bucks. Walk into a guitar center. 9/10 new Squiers will be worth it.

That's on par with Gibson/Fender. I don't know what they do to those things to make them so great.

Re: Cheapest good electric

Any used Peavey is a good guitar, but I also just recently discovered another. This last week I rewired a JCX StarGazer for someone at work. Its a cheap Strat copy but played amazingly well. Apparently they were designed/built by Jeff Cook, the guitarist for Alabama. The one I wired was even autographed by him. I think they sell new for about $70. They get good reviews at HC.

Holy crap....that white Peavey strat was the first guitar I ever owned. Did the trick for a couple years. I should've kept it as a project....
