Follow up from my previous thread, I rescued this RG3EX1 from an older guy who had given up on learning the guitar.
After a cleaning, setup, and pickup swap... it's back from under the bed!
The guitar sounds great though my JVM. Just like a previous RG I played years ago. Lots of cut, very tight and very reactive and responsive.
The JB in the bridge is a mid 90's production that I've had in two guitars previously. So far, it sounds best in this guitar. No cold, stiff upper mids, no loose bass, no excessive treble. Quite thick and tight sounding with high gain. Very reminiscent of my Black Winter.
The 59n is my first one. I bought it used locally off a guy about a year ago specifically to pair with the JB.
Slightly scooped, less sustain than I expected and slightly dark sounding. I will need some more time to play with it.
All my other guitars have modern c-shaped necks, so it's been a bit of an adjustment to the flat fretboard radius, but I think I'll get there. I got this as mainly a lead noodling guitar, hoping it will help propel my proficiency a bit. But turns out it's a sick metal rhythm riffer as well.
In the end, it's a deadly weapon added to the arsenal.
