Cheapy Ibanez RG

Re: Cheapy Ibanez RG

Sorry dude, that's not the same guitar. Not even close. Here's the link from the original post...

...Here's a picture of the guitar from that post...

...And here's the picture that you posted...

Where's the 4 wing bird under the bridge, and why is there a horrible parting line instead. That's not even almost the same figuring. And it looks like you've already completed at least one pickup swap...and went backwards. "This listing sold on 12/03/2017." That's two months ago.

The only acceptable explanation is that you posted the wrong Reverb ad, or that the ads got switched by Reverb. That's the only acceptable explanation. Otherwise, I gotta say that yes, I'm officially "calling you out." If that doesn't work for you, then the next step is to involve a moderator. If you post the right ad in correction, then all's well in Whoville, and you understand why I'm calling shenanigans here. Anything other than that will NOT elicit a response from me in this thread.

NOT IN THIS THREAD...!!!

It WILL elicit a response from me, but not in this thread.

Why...??? Because shenanigans can AND SHOULD land a person in a "no fly zone" when doing business on this forum. If you can't "prove your purchase," then you SHOULD move into a different category...even if you NEVER intend to do business on this forum. That's how online forums work. I'm just explaining my thought process.

Calm down, I think you're confused. I never said they were the same guitars. I originally posted a link to a Reverb ad showing the same guitar model and color I was buying locally. That Reverb listing is from over a year ago. Lol! How can I buy a guitar online and receive it the next day? Lol! Especially when the listing is clearly ended. You're new here, please don't insult my intelligence or credibility.

I was referencing the link again showing how this specific model apparently has a non-photo top. Because I might add of your questioning and gushing over it. Otherwise I couldn't give a sh¡t about it.

Your detective skills are overzealous, and your reading comprehension skills are lacking. LOL!

Already calm, and absolutely admitting that I mis-read the original post. I thought that the Reverb ad was for a guitar that happened to be local for you, and you were going to have a chance to go look at it before buying it. Some people buy stuff from Reverb / Ebay / Guitar Center Online / Whatever...this way and ONLY this way.

Like I said, all's well in Whoville...!!! And yep, I've ran into "guys like that" online one too many times, so when I THINK that I'm seeing shenanigans, I get an itchy trigger finger, because I HATE THAT GUY. And I hate him BAD!!!

Oh, and you're telling a guy who still writes "2018" for today's date that the ad was from over a year ago. THAT WOULD HAVE MADE IT WORSE IF I KNEW WHEN I AM RIGHT NOW...!!!

My apologies go out to you, Van Noord. I didn't quite understand the rational for the link in the original post, and jumped to a logical and incorrect conclusion.

Re: Cheapy Ibanez RG

Congrats... I really like that color! [emoji1303]

I’ve got a 2010 RG3EXFM1 which is a great guitar (once I rid myself of the AWFUL stock V7/V8 pickups). Looks great, plays great...

Re: Cheapy Ibanez RG

You guys DO know the Ibanez RG rule of thumb????

The worse it looks. the better it plays, and the more it costs.

Re: Cheapy Ibanez RG

We had one of those at one of our shops a while back in that same color cool guitar. Neck is a good bit different from the wizard on my early 90's Iby mutt thicker and rounder but still fast and very comfortable. Congrats and a nice grab for that $$!!

Re: Cheapy Ibanez RG

Well I got the guitar today. It has Duncan Designed chrome covered humbuckers, which are not stock. It's in really good condition for a 12ish year old Ibanez. No body wear, dents or dings. Which is rare for a basswood body this old. Nice quilt top, which I think is a maple cap. The body also has a cream binding.

Neck feels nice and broken in. Not as thin as I anticipated, so that's good. It is flat though, which is what I wanted.
Didn't play it so no sound or playability report because the strings and action were terrible. Needs a setup. I just stripped it and cleaned it.

As I said I'll be putting in a zebra JB and 59. There seems to be mixed reviews on the JB in a basswood guitar, but I guess I'll find out.

My IBY mutt has a JB in a basswood body and that guitar sounds absolutely fantastic. Here is hoping yours sounds as good as mine with the JB!!

I’m glad you like the JB in basswood. I’m having one installed in my new Ibby as well and I wasn’t sure how it might sound.

Very nice. My understanding is that they made the model I have, RG3EX from 2005-2007, then made the RG3EXFM1 in 2008. With the only changes being a flamed top and the V series pickups.

The neck not as thin as I feared it would be. What I like is that the center of the back of the neck is flat, and the edges then both curve out. It creates a nice base point for your thumb while noodling.

Thats great to hear. I've read tnat basswood is similar to alder tonewise, only with a subdued top end. Somewhat more neutral sounding i suppose. This is probably a good pairing what with the JB's treble bite and boosted upper midrange.

When I first picked up the Ibanez mutt I have I didn't know what was in the bridge but never would have guessed it was a JB. It's absolutely huge sounding in that guitar and I had to pull it out and look at the back to make sure it was a JB. Really fat smooth round and big in that particular guitar. It is an early 90's mutt with a 91 RG 570 neck and a similar vintage basswood single hum body. Have several JB's here in different guitars but that particular combo is just flat a killer!!

Im hoping mine sounds exactly as you described.

There is an element of truth to this. My best playing Ibanez is an Indonesian made 2008 RGA32. The back of the neck is dead flat reminiscing a D shape. In combination with the thinner body it facilitates faster playing. On the other hand my 2015 RG655 (MIJ) which cost me 5 times as the RGA plays the worst with the high action and skewed fretboard.

Re: Cheapy Ibanez RG

I like my RGs
I would like the same thing in a a S body

But you know
I ain't got one

You lost me. That didn't have fanned frets, what do you mean by skewed...??? The fretboards, to me, seem like they should be the same or similar, and put on two different necks (Wiz2 and a Super Wiz).

And how come the action wouldn't come down...??? Maybe a locking nut that was jacked up or something and difficult to replace because of the size, that's my only guess.

I'm not insulting your intelligence, I'm certain that there's a reason, I just got lost. I've never had an electric guitar that I couldn't lower the action on!

Re: Cheapy Ibanez RG

By 'action' I mean the lowest possible action before I get fret buzz. I can go lower but the strings will buzz. YEah maybe the locking nut or something I don't know

Yep, got it! I know that story, and just couldn't remember it. I was considering leveling /re-crowning the 1st fret, and decided to put it at the tippy top of standard specs as far as string height is concerned, which is not too far off from where I like it anyhow on most guitars.

Skewed fretboards on Prestiges...!?! Wow.
