Check Out My Glorious Strat Assembly (pics)

Re: Check Out My Glorious Strat Assembly (pics)

Wow dude!! Wow!! I love that thing, beautiful ash body that clearly shows through a really beautiful transparent blue. The pickguard really fits with the pups and finish and that neck looks is stunning. Well named, it certainly lives up to it.

Hey, no need to rationalize. There's nothing wrong with paying for exactly what you want and intend to keep!

That looks awesome :D I love the trans-blue. That photo of the neck looks like you're dropping it!

Ah, dude... I spread the purchases out so that I wouldn't have to think about it in terms of "real" money. My guess is that you could get close to a CS Fender by the time I was done. Here goes, off the top of my head... this is painful:

Body and neck = $720
Callaham bridge = $175
Voodoo pups = $245
Suhr system = $260
Gotoh locking Klusons = $80
SS neck kit (steel inserts, can be removed and put back an indefinite number of times, will never strip, and will always return to the same place) = $50
Misc. (dunlop straplocks, pots, jackplate, etc.) = $70
PLEK job and reshape of headstock = $200

Yikes, what am I up to? $1,800? For something that has zero resell value. On the other hand, it is exactly what I want, and I've never bought a piece of gear with the intention of selling it. I'm sure it would cost more for me to get this out of someone's custom shop, and I can almost guarantee the wood wouldn't be as nice. (Yes, that's the sound of me rationalizing.)

in 1994/5 i did a Warmoth/Chandler strat build that cost me around $1800 when all was said and done... lots of tech time because he did some of the finnishing for me.... it was sopposed to be the be all end all of my idea of a super strat at that time... i spent what ever it cost to see that project come thru.... I just bought parts whenever i could afford them... It took me almost 2 years to get it all together.... and it is one amazing playing and sounding guitar... it looks a little funny as i made some bad choices along the way... some over the phone... i gave the go ahead to use some larger then normall PU Rings without seeing them in person... if i remove them and use plastic ones you can see the screw holes... The Chandler strat body is slightly different looking then a Fender and it has much sharper edges like a tele would...

still i would not trade the end result... no matter what Dimarzio or Duncan PU's i use in it it always sounds great!!! It just works... I've been itching to build another

Sure it looks like a lot of money on paper, but it looks like it was money well spent. I bet it's difficult for you to go into a guitar shop to try something out.....since everything will feel cheap.

Love the color, and I love the neck but I don't appreciate getting gas to build a proper strat like that one.

Re: Check Out My Glorious Strat Assembly (pics)

Oh man, this one looks BEYOND gorgeous.
And the color, it matches with the wood grain SO good.

Truly amazing!

Ha, that one makes a lot more sense if you orient it the natural way, which is headstock down. It was hanging from a hook, and that's a friend of mine stabilizing it for the photo.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. I gotta say, I can't put this thing down. I have to go away next week, and I really think I am going to go through withdrawl.

Does anyone else here have the BPSSC system on any of their guitars? How quiet is yours under high-gain?

can i assume by this question you are getting some noise under high gain settings? maybe part of it is need for sheilding in the routs...?

Yep, noisy with gain. It's pretty well shielded to hell in there. Yeah, thus far, I've only played it through three amps, and two were cleanish single-channel Class A's (no issue whatsoever with them). With my channel switcher, there is definitely pronounced hum under high gain. I'm taking it to a friend's studio tonight... I should be able to figure out if the guitar or the amp is the culprit.

Re: Check Out My Glorious Strat Assembly (pics)

I LOVE that guitar, but...is it me, or is the scratchplate the wrong size? It seems too low to me. You can see it on the lower horn.

The guitar itself is unbelievably gorgeous. It's about the nicest guitar colour and finish I've ever seen. But the scrathplate colour and fit don't quite go with it IMO.

Id like to see pics of that guitar.

Re: Check Out My Glorious Strat Assembly (pics)

I love that neck and the color you put on it. I think it looks great!! I'm not much of a fan of that pickguard, but if you like it then that's all that matters.

Re: Check Out My Glorious Strat Assembly (pics)

EXCELLENT build. :bigthumb: Loooove the wood choice of both the neck and body, and the finish. Can't say I'm much a fan of the pickguard either, but I'd echo JOLLY's sentiments...if it works for you, cool! :D

I'm happy to see someone else going as nuts as I do on their builds...though you guys are out-spending me, surprisingly! I don't think I have more than a grand in any of my now approaching six parts babies. Though one of my two current ones may get PLEK'ed after reading this review, and one of my friends raving about it continuously...:arms:
