I'd like to have one of those just for shock value. Anybody have any info/history on those bad boys?

Yup. One of our local dealers has a pretty clean drip-edge DS stack with the JBLs (badge and all) for sale that I drool over every time I go in the place.

BIG amp.

Yessir...they are rather large!

I used to think my Sunn 2x15 was big until I saw one of those Dual Showman cabs up close!

I've got the same cab, drip edge and all, and I can attest to how ****ing heavy and gigantic it is. It's such a pain in the ass to move that I went flat broke for two weeks just to get a smaller (yet ironically heavier) cabinet so I don't have to move that one from my band space.

Jimi for a period of time was using a couple of Fender Showman heads mixed with his Marshalls on stage. When I saw him at the Forum in L.A. years ago, he had the Marshall stacks behind him, and the two Showman heads on the drum riser right next to him, with the Fender cabs behind him. I know he was using the Fenders along with the Marshalls, as he once in a while would bend down and change the controls on the Showman heads.

That was filmed down the street from where I live....Devonshire Downs. I raced BMX bikes there as a kid.
Now, it's part of Cal State Northridge's property.

I've had a couple of those cabs. For their size they are not as heavy as they look.
A Marshall 4-12 weighs more. Except...the first one I had...it was loaded with SRO's!!!!

I just realized that the clip the OP posted is from Newport '69 at Devonshire Downs, which I attended when I was young. This was a three-day festival, Hendrix played on (as I recall) day 1 with the Experience, he came on late, was in a pissy mood and did a really short set. He didn't play well that day, it was obvious something was wrong. I later read in a book that as the band was entering the site, they saw cops beating on people who were trying to knock down the fences and get in to the sold-out festival, hence the short set and the bad mood. I had seen the Experience at the Forum earlier, and was a bit let down by this performance, until I later read the explanation. There were many other great bands there, though, like Eric Burdon & War, and Spirit (who were probably the highlight of the show).

Anyway, the clip above is from the third day, when Hendrix took the stage to jam with various players from the other bands at the show, and this time he was blazing away. Totally made up for the uninspiring performance the Experience did the other day. Hendrix took on all comers, and played like I've never seen him play, he was loose and in a great mood, and played fantastically. Really a great memory, I was pretty young then and this was the first festival I had ever gone to, and it was for the most part a fantastic experience.

Boy, those hippies sure did like to try to climb up on stages.

He musta been pissed off that silverface crap and the JBL's sounded like dump compared to his Marshall Plexis and G12H-30 Celestion cabinets.

Spirit was one of the better groups from that era. Moby Grape - one of the best (too bad the hype and pressure got the best of them).

The Dual Showman cabs looked big, but they weren't very deep (about 11" iirc). They were almost as big as the cabs (3 of 'em) I had custom made by Don Wehr of Music City in S.F. (about 18" deep and similar width and length as the D.S. cab, with 2x D130F spkrs in each).

Those JBL D130F spkrs were the heaviest spkrs I've ever had (just the spkr was about as heavy as a complete 2x12 cab). But they were very efficient = loud, and had great cleans from power heavy amps.
