10 gauge baby! I mean, why use the best pickups, guitar cords, components , only to end up sending the endsgignal through despicably thin speaker wire? There is absolutely no merit to such puny cheap wire, unless you think by doing that you are chasing 100% authentic vintage tone.

I desperately want to install this stuff in some of my cabinets, but as of right now, it is cost -prohibitive. If I can move some gear I'm selling, I'm going to get at least one of these harnesses for one of my extra special 4x12 cabinets.

I'm not sure the benefit would ever justify the cost, Jerry.

What I'm thinking about for purifying my tone is deeper pile on my carpet ... something like this:

It will increase apparent efficiency by filtering out the unusable bass response thereby redirecting the available wattage into the frequency range that really makes the amp sing. The overall loudness will increase without the flub normally associated with less expensive, lower pile carpets.

Cost is relative. With the right adapters you could use them for jumper cables in a pinch.

actually, have you ever played a vintage style guitar( particularly acoustic) with a vintage style amp in a room with old wooden floors, and I nice thick oriental rug- it's a sweet experience, and the acoustics aren't lost on concrete or a tone sucking pyle carpet. I'm not talking modern metal, which isn't tone, but sound, but I mean classic vintage sound.

I agree with trevorus, but it's your money. Decent 12 or 14 AWG wire is fine, heck even 18 will carry the current for a speaker cabinet, electrons don't care how much you spend. There isn't really any magic to speaker wire.

Okay, I can digest that, thanks. NOW, OTOH, what about these wonderful expensive Boutique amp speaker cables made with high end components and technology? Just cause gauge doesn't make a difference, doesn't mean the cable construction can't .

I notice a quick procllvity on music gear boards to dismiss anything that costs money (over and above traditional cheaper stuff ) to be ridiculed. Is it fear of the unkown, ignorance, common sense, or just wanting to justify not spending money on quality stuff?

Cheap high capacitance guitar cables suck tone because capacitance rolls off high end. Crappy bypass pedals like standard Crybabies do the same. Speaker cables aren't shielded, they are like power cords, all they do is carry current, and yes, there are $150 IEC power cords for amps, but that is snake oil too. FWIW, I have a BS in electronics, but that is often poo-pooed on in forums too.

Those look like standard 1/4" Switchcraft jacks on those cables, the ones in your cabinet are probably just as good, if not, I'm thinking the speaker wire isn't your problem.

I believe in quality stuff, I don't believe in ripoffs. What kind of amp and cabinet are you planning on putting these bad boys in?

If you want to see some really wild stuff check out audiophile forums, those guys have money and will buy about anything.

Unfortunately, I have not played a vintage acoustic guitar on any type of floor or floor covering, and the only vintage amps I've ever used were the ones I owned when they and I were both young together.

I would use these on classic vintage amps and cabinets ( I think the heavy plain technology heavy guage stuff would be good on medern amps) ;

I mean, if you are going for a ratty old skool Chicago blues tone with,say, an old harmony Rocket and , like, a Teisco tube amp form the 60's, then maybe these aren't the best idea, but for many things, if not most, then they are worth consideration IMO.

Because I'm familiar with the world of high-end audio, it doesn't phase me when people talk about $150 power cords. I have some $99 power cords myself, but I paid dealer closeout pricing on all of them. That's about as far as I want to go down this particular rabbit hole. It's a nice-looking cable, it grips the sockets really well, and I know it's overkill.

I've never A/B'd power cords. I bought my power cords because of what I could tell without listening to them. Stock power cords are boring, and if I can upgrade for $33, I'll probably do it. But I'll go only so far. Maybe the Elrods or some $800 Shunyta might do really well in double-blind tests, but either way I'm not going to buy them. I'd rather buy a Sonos or a new DAC.

Speaker cables don't need to be shielded, some of those are, go figure...

I didn't say it screams snake oil. The best audio system I've ever heard in my life used those cables. But I don't know what role they really played. I decline to pass judgment. And I stand by the cables that I bought. They're purple, for crying out loud. It's like putting LED lighting in a computer case. It dresses things up a bit. That's a big part of why I bought them.
