bought a P(king)RS Custom 24 knock off without pickups or electronics for 250 from Made in China...well made guitar, they even did a good job on the birds....put APIIs and PRS pots in it....plays good, sounds very good....embarrassed to show it to anyone because it is a way too good of copy.

If it says Gibson on the headstock, that makes it a counterfeit. In the US, it is illegal to sell, buy, or possess counterfeits. US Customs seize hundreds every day, and saw them up.
I bought one thinking it was real. It was VERY good. I didn't realize until I got home and popped the covers and found those teensy Asian pots. Looked it over real well, and discovered it was a multi-piece body and neck, cleverly disguised with decals to look like a one piece body and neck. As a guitar, it played and sounded great! I wanted to keep it, but I went back, demanded a refund and told them I was calling the Sheriffs Department. It's my understanding they investigated, and the seller had already moved the guitar to avoid any trouble. Turns out that outfit regularly sold counterfeit items like fake Rolexes, etc., and was in trouble with the law about it.

Please don't, the bulk of them are pure crap
Get an Epi and some other legit brand and tweak it, a far better choice

I went to Aliexpress and talked directly to the Asian factory rep
Once you get past the language thing,
Things like neck access carve and tummy cut require images and arrows
I like stainless frets they will cut unique headstock if you provide measurements
The Gibson spread from nut to tuners really bums me
I would prefer a straight pull
Like in my previous builds, I got custom logos on the headstock
Control layouts
Basically a custom build, don't actually buy a Gibson branded counterfeit

Another vote against supporting flat-out counterfeiting. If the copies are so good, let them put their own name on the headstock and compete out in the open.

OK - I have not seen the headstocks of any of these. They don't show them. Probably a good idea on their part!
And - I have no intention of attempting to pass one as the real deal ever. But dang...I just saw some sweet @$$ color schemes etc and am damn curious!!!!

I would say that, if you’ve ever wanted a custom shop guitar, but wanted to keep the price down, then you should go for a finished neck and body from China, and add hardware and electronics yourself. I’ve seen videos of people very happy with their instruments, and others where bridges didn’t line up with necks.
There was/ is a YouTube channel called China Guitar Sceptic who bought and reviewed a bunch, and was even going to try to start a small brand called Milton Guitars.
I would say that, if you’ve ever wanted a custom shop guitar, but wanted to keep the price down, then you should go for a finished neck and body from China, and add hardware and electronics yourself. I've been tempted to get a cheapo acrylic Dan Armstrong type guitar for $250-300 and just slapping a SD AHB 3 in it.

I'm sure YOU know it's not real. What Imeamt was that, as long as you, Aceman, don't try to sell it off as a Gibson later, then I see no issue with buying one off of ebay.

Don't know about Chibson Les Paul's but my AXL 1216 (MIC) is just fantastic! I mean the tone is amazing with the stock "EMG designed' pickups & it was the best-playing guitar out of the box that I've ever bought...hands down, regardless of price. I have'nt changed a thing except strings on that guitar to date (not even adjusted pickup height)...
Then there's my 'Grote' semi-hollow ... again MIC, played perfect out of the box, sounds sweet as **** .. really warm & fat with a soft/mellow attack (..but still tons of clarity) & beautiful fit & finish.
I mean you hear horror stories about Chinese-made guitars being firewood & stuff, but that has'nt been my personal experience at all..quite the opposite.

Same here.
Generally I think that buying from aliexpress is totally a good move, you can't loose your money, value/quality is good (not QC tho) and refunds are very easy. What they fall behind is in QC. But this would raise the price.
Now what I find unacceptable is big-makers guitars with design or manufacturing flaws coming from China/Indonesia, I mean 1500 EUR for a guitar from indonesia which has problems is just unacceptable .
