OK - I have not seen the headstocks of any of these. They don't show them. Probably a good idea on their part!

And - I have no intention of attempting to pass one as the real deal ever. But dang...I just saw some sweet @$$ color schemes etc and am damn curious!
So say you sell it, and that guy rips off somebody? How you think Dave would feel if you were talking about Duncan counterfeits?

And what if Ace sells it as the fake it is, and the next guy rips somebody off? Its BS to rationalize ANY stealing. And it is stealing, no matter how much anybody here hates Gibson, you take part in it, you're no better than the guy who lifted Holcomb's guitar.

I don't think Duncan really makes double slug pickups

I have no problems with and nothing against Chinese guitars, or any other guitars. Most manufacturers have guitars in their line ups that are very, very similar.
However identifying it as something it is not is wrong.
If it's a Uncle Li's Universe of Strings l.p it should be identified as such.

I have plenty of Chinese guitars. But they dont say Gibson and have a fake serial#. I bought one called GIANNINI and its a killer guitar. Theres another brand called Wolf guitars, plenty of crazy colors and I think they look awesome. Its the blatant obvious counterfeit that makes me call foul. I bet the guy who stole Holcomb's guitar had plenty of good reasons(to him) for stealing it. PRS will just make him another one, hes got plenty of money, he can afford another one.....I have been a victim of people stealing from me, I dont like thieves. Would you buy Holcomb's stolen guitar? I sure would NOT

Who "Stole" anything? I have no intention of buying a Gibson. I know it isn't a Gibson. I don't want a Gibson. I want a Chinese replica of a Gibson, for my personal use and entertainment.

They know what they made, I know what they made, there is no intended harm or fraud in anyway, shape or form. This would be $300 that Gibson would have never had. And, as mentioned, even if it was a BLANK headstock, I am free to personally modify it in ay way I choose. Including placing a Gibson logo on it.

And also - don't say Gibson had nothing to do with it. Had they not priced their guitars outside the reach of everyone but a Blues Lawyer, and had quality as good as these, and listened to their customers, they would be fine. The bottom line is that you can't eff with Mother Nature. In this case, the market. Times and tech have changed, Gibson didn't, thus they die.

Stealing is being involved in a known counterfeit operation. Its against the law, and for good reason. You asked for opinions, you know mine. They stamp Gibson on the headstock and give a fake serial#, thats knowingly being a part of a professional company that is STEALING. Do whatever you want, but I know whats right and wrong to me, and its wrong. Did I say this was causing all of Gibson's problems? Frickin scum thieves is what they are to me. I think I pay too many taxes, so maybe I should just print my own money? Serious?

BTW, the word CHIBSON implies the guitar has a fake label and # to me. If you buy a guitar with no label, I have no problem at all with that. Is that what we are discussing tho?

Selling counterfeit goods is NOT stealing.

It's actually much worse, it's a federal offense, so the FBI and the IRS can be directly involved having giurisdiction by default.

I think we're getting carried away with ethics. The dude just wants a guitar to rock out with. He's not trying to sell or flip it to an unsuspecting buyer.

Going back to the original post, chinese "knockoffs" or "custom builds" can be hit or miss with the quality of wood and playability. I've had "ebony" that has cracked within weeks. Hardware can be iffy. As long as you're willing to put in a little work, I think you'll be fine. Like, I said, I wouldn't mind an acrylic Dan Armstrong since I'll be playing a AHB 3 and pushing it through a high gain pedal.

I have too many guitars and I've been selling quite a few off. I'm an idiot and enjoy working on them to much instead of learning to coerce the correct sounds out of them. I'm also a mechanical engineer with decades of extremely hands on experience building things. I know what quality is. That doesn't mean different people don't value attributes differently though, it can be a slippery slope. What I've found is that American and Late 70's on up Japanese guitars are more "stable". Neck curvature is constant, string gauge changes don't mess up the setup, weather changes don't affect them as much. I have Chinese and Korean guitars and an old Japanese guitar that are very nicely built, but are finicky or unusable because of neck twisting etc. Wood selection, how well it's dried, humidity when sealed heck I don't know but something is different. I just know that after picking up 30 guitars and playing around with them anything from Japan after about 1977 is a keeper, anything American is a keeper, and the others can be beautiful, well built, and setup to play well, but often are more sensitive or warp out of useability eventually. This is all based on anecdotal experience and subject to confirmation bias and all sorts of human faults but as much as I would like my Chinese guitars (i.e. Epiphone SG G-400) they always end up in the closet instead of on the rack where I can can reach for them.

I would not get anything with the Gibson Logo unless it was so obviously not a Gibson it's absurd in a Monte Python kind of way.
