Chibsun from China - What Choo say?

Re: Chibsun from China - What Choo say?

I've gone onstage with a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Squire Mini for a D-tuned number. Band members were loving the sound but shocked when they looked over and I had switched to the Squire for the heaviest song. You can make anything work if you know what you're doing. A nicer guitar would be easier to play, you can do more bends and be uninhibited, but anything can be made to work if you know what you are doing.

+100000. Boom. Spot on. A nice guitar will always play effortless and be easy to dial in. That said, any guitar can be made to sound fine with a bit of work (setup, pickups, etc) and the hands holding the instrument.

My two cents. I don't care if the headstock says Gibson, Chibson or FAKE in huge letters. If you buy one of these guitars you are fueling the criminal enterprise. The difference of buying one of these AliExpress guitars with a blank heastock and buying and building a Warmouth or Partcaster yourself is Warmouth is not selling counterfit guitars on the side.

If it's got a blank headstock or says "Fake" on it , how is it criminal?

Re: Chibsun from China - What Choo say?

I can see how the influx of money allows them to both continue and fine-tune their counterfeiting craft

That said, if a product doesn't say "Gibson" on the headstock, it falls into a very gray area for me...these "Chibsons" aren't the first brand name knock-offs to make a copy and throw a different name on the headstock. Heck, there's an entire "Lawsuit" era of Japanese guitars that remains quite acceptable and rather collectible among many guitarists.

Plus, if one of us here were to post our own "LP Build" and put our name on the headstock at the end, people would be generally supportive and positive of the effort.

However, because that Taiwanese dude working out of his garage with his two cousins building guitars isn't a forum member we can connect with, we tend to think of the same resulting product a bit differently for some reason

Ace, you can also get Murphy aged guitars on the site listed above, 59' Custom Shop Guitars and there are even Limited Edition Jimmy Page #1 replicas.....the first 25 have been inspected, played and signed by Jimmy. Serious deals?

When are you going to pull the trigger?

Re: Chibsun from China - What Choo say?

Agreed. That is a seriously nice way to address that neck joint! Gibson should start copying the copiers!

Re: Chibsun from China - What Choo say?

By the way - I'm officially off the Chibson Trail.

I am refinishing the pool, fixing issue in shower, and finishing three projects! See FU Kitty thread in Pickup lounge
