China - Tweed Champ for $209 including shipping?

Re: China - Tweed Champ for $209 including shipping?

It isn't the fact that it is made in China that is the problem for me. It is the fact that it comes from a website selling fakes of other gear. I just wouldn't want to support a company like that.

Wow... This thread has gone way to far for no one to mention DIY. You can build that amp for a spare tranny or 2, and $40 worth of parts. It's not like they are hiding any magic anymore. Those circuits are about as simple as they come.

Be like Nike. Just do it.
In fact $75 for parts (including PCB with standoffs), $100 for good PWR and OP xfmrs and another $40 for chassis - 215 without cabinet and speaker. But you are right build is the way to go not very difficult and when your done you do have an amp as good or better than the $1,000 Fender model.

That is my problem with it.

I'm always bemused how the country of origin...China....provokes emotional negativity from a lot of folks, probably related to job losses in the USA more than any other real facts. But get used to it...it's a global market these days, OR just don't buy anything from China! BTW, good luck with that.

I too find the China thing quite comical. Especially when someone goes on about the evils of buying anything from China... you know... as they type their soapbox rant on a CHINESE-made computer or smart device. Buying Chinese is the world that we live in now. And unless we're going to build a cabin deep in the wilderness and live like Dick Proenneke... we're going to be buying and using Chinese stuff. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my American-made Tom Anderson Classic strats, Friedman Smallbox and Splawn Quickrod. But there are a LOT of great quality Chinese products out there these days. My three main (gigging) nylon string classical/flamenco Cordoba guitars were all made in China. I just sold the last of my Spanish made Cordobas because for me, the Chinese ones were better. I don't like the fact that the Chinese monster has taken over the world, but since I live in the real world... that's just the way it is.

Most of what you say is true BUT when they advertise Seymour Duncan or EMG pickups in the guitar and a close look reveals that there is no way they are Seymour Duncan's for example, the humbucker pickups have slugs on both side, no screws they are falsely advertising their product and if they will do this with the pickups you have to wonder about what they claim regarding the rest of the guitar. With the amp in question the pictures show two different types of components and one picture is in a parking lot with no control knobs just to hit the high points. Yes we have to accept China a a major supplier to US companies with quality control systems in place but for an individual to buy a China product from any old seller is a risky proposition at best.

I won't disagree with that. And I totally hate the whole counterfeit deal ala Chibson. I'm less butthurt by differently-labeled copies of things (like Edwards LPs from Japan and Ceriatone clone amps... three of which I've owned). My post was mostly aimed at those who seem angered that Americans buy ANYthing from China. I get it... but it's just not living in reality to think that anyone not confining themselves to a remote farm compound can go through life without buying Chinese goods.

^^ Those are all the same amp made by Goldea. You could have the name of your choice on them, if you order a specified minimum quantity. Many Chinese manufacturers are OEM manufacturer's ..so they will tweak their product a bit (change the odd component...ie caps etc) & re-label it according to the buyer's requirements...

I mean EMG & Duncan are'nt Chinese company's, but Goldea is. I don't see why they would fake their own stuff (?)...lol my Goldea (red faced one up there..) had a street price of $150 anyway :laugh2:

How much for shipping? On the products that I find that look trustworthy the shipping cost throughs any savings out the window.

Re: China - Tweed Champ for $209 including shipping?

That's sort of true..

When I bought mine almost 5 years ago shipping (by EMS) was an additional $150 for the head (so a total of $300)

..also got an unloaded 2x10 cab for $50 (+ 70 shipping by regular China Post)

...trust me...nothing wrong with the build quality ..it's top notch :bigthumb:

If you do get one, have them pull all the tubes/pack them seperately before shipping though...I had a lot of dead tubes on arrival.

Re: China - Tweed Champ for $209 including shipping?

I have a Fender Champion 600 and I bought it for the tone, which is excellent.

But how can people consider $200+ for Chinese-made a possible bargain and dismiss under $200 as crap? I guess we found someone's crap line, and it appears to have nothing to do with music or sound.

To elaborate; have you opened up your Champ 600 ? It has a PCB as thick as a business card, the potentiometer is the diameter of a pencil eraser, etc. I can't vouch for the sound of the amps linked to in this thread, but at least it seems to have been made with "real" components.

I also had a Champion 600 , and it did sound ok... But it sounded much better once I did some mods and ditched the stock speaker for something higher quality/bigger (most people do complain about the speakers on them, it's a very small sounding/inefficient speaker although I found that it was less of a problem tone-wise than the values in the tone stack.) I ultimately ditched it, it was a fun little amp, but it was no doubt Chinese crap and I had no delusions of it being otherwise.

Got my Rolex off Alibaba. Tick tick tick

Re: China - Tweed Champ for $209 including shipping?

I almost want to buy one & turn it into a little Mini-Head....

I had a Fender Champion 600 Reissue for a while and although I wasn't a huge fan of the stock 8in speaker it was a pretty sweet lil practice amp pushing a Greenback loaded 1X12!!! At a glance these definitely seem to be put together at least as well as the 600 Reissues & it's a actual 5E3 circuit! Of course you can pick up those little Fender 600's for around $125 used & you know exactly what you're getting, anything MIC that seems to good to be true usually is!!!
