Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

Instead of making a calculated decision to buy another guitar, I jumped the gun and purchased a mint Yamaha SG yesterday. Extremely nice guitar that I am glad I bought, but it set me back about a grand.:smack:

I was originally planning on picking up a nice 4x12 (probably an Emperor) for my JCM800 but looks like that plan has been slashed. But since I don't want to wait three months for me to pick up a nice one, I am going to get a 4x12 by the end of this month. Based on the shops around me, these are the best four I can find

The first three are $499 and the last one is $599 and are all in very good condition

1. Soldano 4x12 (Angled with Eminence)
2. Avatar Traditional 4x12 (loaded with V30's, 16 ohm)
3. Marshall 1960B
4. Unidentifiable 4x12, certainly from the 70's based on the tolex as it reminds me of a Hiwatt/Sound City. It has a 'Celestion' embelm on the grill. Anyway, loaded with 16 ohm Celestion blackback's.

I would take the JCM 800 with me and play through all of the 4x12's to see which one I liked the best.

I'd go with the Soldano cab personally.

+1 this.

After sound, weight and condition are factored in.
But sound first and foremost.

You know you can buy a brand new avatar cab from avatarspeakers.com for $499 right!

Re: Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

Those prices suck for all of them...

What is the rush, I would take the head and try them out.

Re: Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

Why buy a used cab for the same price as a new one, plus you can choose your speakers at Avatar. Their Vintage is a great cab.

Re: Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

I have an Avatar traditional, it's made OK, good materials, but it is only 12" deep, just so you know. It doesn't seem like much, but it's a huge difference from my randall, which is 14" deep. Mine is for sale to make room for a 2x12.

The G412 Vintage cabinet dimensions are 30"W x 29.5"H x 14"D. 15mm Birch Plywood. Weight is approximately 95 lbs depending on speakers.

The dimensions of the G412 tRADITIONAL are: 29"H x 28.5"W x 12."D. This speaker cab weighs approx. 85-95 lbs, depending on speakers.

The G412 Contemporary cab dimensions are 29"W x 29"H x 14"D. Weight is approximately 115 lbs depending on speakers.

The Traditional is more Fender based schematics where the Vintage is more Marshall and Contemp is more Mesa/Orange

Yes, I know. He has a traditional listed on there. It likely won't compete with the Soldano or Marshall for lows.

That's why I listed the other options avatar has. He'd be a fool to drop $500 on a used avatar when he could order one brand new. The Trads aren't bad. I have a 212 and able to get some massive low end with it.
