Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

Re: Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

Yeah, i've been thinking and I am rushing into it. Why not just save up and get what I originally wanted (Emperor 4x12) before just pulling the trigger too quickly.

Re: Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

I'd keep an eye on Craigslist for a beat up Marshall 1960 A/B for about $300.........

Re: Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

I'd avoid the 1960B at all costs. Haven't played through a single A or B that didn't project awfully. Get a new Avatar for the same price. Tough to beat.

Huh?

Most cabs are built using the same basic design. The biggest difference being a screwed or fixed baffle.

Wood is wood, and given the same basic interior dimensions, then you have a similar sound.

The Avatar vintage is simply a Marshall clone.

Still, I've never played through a 1960 (A or B) that projects other than directly in front of the speakers. I find they're too focused for live playing, even when miked in the PA. Some may dig that, I guess. I just find them to be overhyped. Not impressed with them, that's all.

That's cool, one mans trash is another man's treasure.

Are you using a 4x12 you like now?

Re: Choose a 4x12 and only these four..

Too bad you are so far away as I could sell you my Yamaha/ Soldano 4/12 from the 1990's. KILLER 4/12 loaded with 75's bottom and Vin 30's and just about pristine.

Me? No, I have an Avatar Vintage 2x12 with V30's (closed back) now. It's perfect for me. Have an old Peavey 4x12 with Sheffields but it's at my buddy's studio. It's nothing special. Don't hate it, don't love it....and don't want to sink cash into it in the form of new speakers either. My 2x12 is killing, and I love it to death.
