choosing humbuckers for a peavey wolfgang??

Looking to put in anTB-5 Duncan Custom in the bridge and a Alnico II Pro in the neck. A guitar store recommended DiMarzios (air norton-neck, tone zone-bridge) because they were "closest to the Van Halen sound". Never been a fan of DiMarzios so I don't know much about 'em. What do you guys think??? Looking for pickups that are both mean and clean.

Sounds like a good combination. I used to have an Alnico II Pro in the neck, and I liked it a lot. I've never tried the Custom, but based on everything I've heard about it, I think it would work well for what you want. The Blues Trembucker is a great bridge pickup for the Wolfgang, but it's much lower in output than the Custom. If you're set on going with a high output pickup, go with the Custom. If you don't necessarily need higher output, the Blues Trembucker is an excellent choice.

The custom and the alnico 2 pro blow the doors off of the dimarzios. I have not played the air norton but, I can not stand the tone zone. Or should we say, The lack of tone zone.

If you want a VH tone from the Wolfie, go with the APH/CC. I like it a lot in my Carvin DC127T. The Custom is cool too. Definately meaner than the CC.

if you want a VH tone why are you taking out your stock pickups? I love the sound of mine.

I agree. (And mine are the 'cheaper' korean made)

I love these stock pups through power tube distortion.
