Choralflange. To be, or not to be.

Howdy partners!

Alright, predicament 'ere. I've not been a chorus fan for a while, but i thought I'd give it a go. I used to own a japanese CE-2 which was great, but i never used it that much. I wanna change that, i wanna put it on when im playing live or when i'm at home.

My initial modulation plans were to sell my current Supa-Trem and buy the MOD Factor when it comes out, but i'm not sure if i require that much modulation capability and variety. Supa-Trem and Choralflange to cover my modulation needs. Should be alright yeh?

How dya guys find the CF-1 (choralflange). I've seen two types, the one with the black footswitch, and the one with the normal footswitch. If i choose to get a 2nd hand one, are there any differences between the two?

Re: Choralflange. To be, or not to be.

I can't answer the question about the switch, other than to say that Mike is always looking for the best, so it's possible he changed them along the way.

I like the pedal, because it's versatile. I'm not always looking for 80's style chorus, but wierd modulation sounds, so I use it in my toolbox of sounds.
With the 2 switches and speed control, you can dial in a lot of cool sounds which are similar to a rotary speaker. I actually use it for faster warbly sounds, moreso than traditional chorus. It's an expensive pedal, but it's a good one to own if you're always looking for something unique on clean verses. I never use it for lead, although it could probably produce something cool for that too.

The pic in my avatar is the new GT500, which I don't own, but it's the only new pedal that I know I'll own eventually. I've been a fan of Fulltone since 95, when I lived one block away from Fulltone's original location. I had one of the first orange FDII's, and used to take it to Mike to mod it....back when he did stuff like that. Now, he's too big to offer personalized service, but I continue to respect him. Forget about what people say about him.....he's a busy man.....and he's a gear whore to the extreme. Really a cool guy. Go on his site and look at all the killer amps and guitars he owns!

My impression from all Fulltone pedals I've tried - they are very warm but lack character... they sound good but they fail when you're trying to get from nice to mean... plus, two EHX pedals or any other two separate flanger and chorus pedals should cost less.

Re: Choralflange. To be, or not to be.

I don't know, but I have to agree with JohnnyGuitar there. All the Fulltone products I've played have lack that certin "something". Chorus wise I think you had it right with the CE-2, I have the same Janpanese CE-2 and it works beautifully.

Re: Choralflange. To be, or not to be.

I had the CE-2. And while i'm not saying it's bad or anything. I think i want a chorus, PLUS other. So i think from what I've been reading and listening to the Choralflange is a largely packed modulation pedal. So far all the fulltone products I own, (Fd2 10th anniversary, Supa Trem and the Wah) have been faithful and work great for me. I'm probably gonna find a 2nd hand one, but maybe i should pull the trigger? So far theres 2 no-go comments, and 1 go comment.

Any more?

There's not much 'flange' in the chroralflange... not enough for my tastes anyway. Kool pedal, just not my cup 'o joe. I greatly prefer my old Boss DC-3 Digital Dimension for chorus & MXR/EH flangers for flange...
