Re: Christian! I got a new amp!

Lew,

Thats too funny!!! When I came to you abotu your brown Deluxe I had a line on a 70 model Princeton Reverb and had decided if you didn't want to let go of the Deluxe I was gonna move on the Princeton! Thats a great deal on a PR for sure!

I bet it'll be a screamin' amp when Bruce is done with it plus you'll have verb...that'll be nice! You'll have to let me know how it turns out, I still kind of want a PR...Bruce told me right after I got my V Front super from him tht a Princeton reverb sounds KILLER when paired wiht a V Front Super...you'll have to let me know!

you gonna get a new cab for it?? I know you're gonna cut it out for a 12...what are ya lookin at for speakers? I know you've got a nice silver 12 you pulled out of the Deluxe!

I've paired my V Front '51 Super with my '58 Deluxe alot playing out and THAT is a killer combo...especially in stereo.

I haven't even seen the new PR yet...yet alone played through it. Bruce has it. He loved the way my tweed Princeton with the Weber P10RT sounded at our recording session the other day and I guess he decided I needed a Princeton Reverb to more or less complete my collection of under 22 watt Fenders. Only thing changed in it is the speaker...has a CTS 10 with an aluminum dome. That'll be removed and replaced but I don't know what with.

I was thinking maybe a C10NQ...Weber's version of a Jensen C10N but with a "Q" cone. I like the lighter cone...it's a little faster and brighter.

Well best of luck with it Lew! I like that "uner 22 watt Fenders!"...I might have to start my own collection...I've already got a nice start with the V Front and the Deluxe!!!

So is Bruce gonna give it the treatment or is he just gonna get it running 100% to spec??

So, your Tweed Princeton is the amp you used in the Studio...able to get any decent cleans out of it???

That little Princeton is a magical amp...it was the amp they kept in the practice room at Hewitt's Music when I was kid taking guitar lessons in 1966 and last time I was in Detroit I stopped by and it was still there. So I bought it.

The cab was covered in gray contact paper and when I took the paper off, it fell completely apart! (laugh!) I found a real late 50's tweed Harvard cab at a Denver Guitar Show with no chassis in it and bought it and the Princeton chassis fit right in. It was exactly the same size. And since the Harvard used a 10" speaker, I put a Weber P10RT in it.

I'll tell you Christian: that amp SCREAMS when I turn it up to 1/2 way or more...just unbelievable! But with my Strat it sounds very chimey and clear.

I'll send you our CD in a few months and you can hear for yourself.

Bruce is going to give it the full treatment. It'll be totally "Bruce-toned"! (laugh!)

Re: Christian! I got a new amp!

Nice Score !! I noticed yours has the large 1 or 2 watt 100k plate load resistors like in my amp. Some time in the 70's for whatever odd reason? Fender started using These resistors in PR's? My 77' Twin had your STD. 1/2 watters for the plate load resistors. More weirdness Via CBS fender I guess? Good luck and enjoy it. :D

I know Bruce will do that little amp right!

I have really been interested in some much smaller tweed stuff but I have a few issues with most of htem, however a tweed Princeton in a Harvard cab would fix most if not all of my issues!

Ya know, a Havard would be a cool amp as is! I have heard that Steve Cropper used a tweed Harvard on all the old Stax/Volts recordings!

Keep me posted on the PR and keep the updates on the disc coming!

I think the original speaker in a Harvard was the famed Jensen P10R...same speaker as used in most tweed Bassmans. And you're right: it's the Steve Cropper amp. It's all over most of that Otis Redding, Booker T and the MG's stuff. Some of my favorite guitar tones! Yours too I would guess. :beerchug:Lew

I can listen to that stuff all day long!!!

Re: Christian! I got a new amp!

Here is the question, is this going to give B Bent gas for another amp????

LOL!!!!!!

Re: Christian! I got a new amp!

^^^^ Dude I have wanted a PR for years ever since I sold my old POS 1973 one. I sold it before I knew what it was. It would have been fun to fix it up had I only been a little older and not an idiot teenager.

Lew Good job buddy. That is killer.

Thanks! Bruce found it for me...

Don't feel bad. When I was an idiot teenager back in the 60's I took a '56 Gibson Les Paul, stripped off the gold finish and painted it sparkle green with spray paint...then stripped it again and painted it polka dot. I also had a '51 Tele routed for two Stratocaster pickups. I also stripped a tweed '59 Bassman and covered it in orange Naugahyde. I also sold a '59 Sunburst Les Paul for $750.

 I don't think I could live with that much guilt.

Re: Christian! I got a new amp!

Yep...a screamin' good deal. Bruce knows the amp and the guy who was selling it. Lew
OH man!! ... this thing has turned out to be a sleeper and at $565.00 out the door... I feel kinda giddy.
Amazingly, it sounds really good right now and except for a few goofy things like the crappy zip cord speaker wire with that ugly 1/4" plug, the big Eminence P10Q thing installed and a pair of Mojo aftermarket chassis straps, it is totally dead stock... and all the tubes test excellent and are American made RCA tubes from the mid 70's.
After I give it the classic Mission: Black Face Tune Up, I was going to bring it and one of my 5E3s over to Charlie's studio this week and let him blast on them for a while.
He likes that open tuned, Delta slide stuff so maybe I'll bring my own 10" cabineted 5F2A and a 12" cabineted 5F11.

Oh, ... up on my speaker racks, I found quite a few 10" speakers to try.
Three of them are some older, but still "new the box", Weber speakers.
A C10N, a C10NQ and a C10Q.
Too bad you have to work the store all week, maybe I could send it out to Christian for a test drive! :eek2:
