Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

Well I can totally see where if the pickup cover was magnetic it would disrupt the signal.
But the covers are not magnetic, therefore really its like nothing is there.
The poles still pick up the string vibration, and they still transfer it to the pickup without having anything to do with the cover.

Its like this, there's you me and a squirt gun.
If the door is open I can squirt you with the gun. (uncovered invader)
If the door is shut, it kinda makes it hard to squirt unless I shoot under at your toes (ineffective-which is what a non drilled cover with no poles would do.)
Now the door is shut but there's 12 door knob sized holes cut out of it, now I can shoot you again (covered invader with poles).

To me this seems like what it boils down to, but if the covers were magnetic it would be a whole different story.

If most other pickups have covers with poles going through it, the invader can too!:cool2::cool2:

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

Yeah, I didn't notice it being muddier, the poles are through the top of the cover. I think any impact is minimal.

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

Here is the basic look of it, got the new covers tonight, still waiting on the chrome hex screws so I put stainless steel ones in for a picture.
Only difference will be they will match a little better and actually be magnetic.

I have my chrome guitar back!
Sorry picture didn't look this blurry on my phone, but reflection off chrome doesn't really help...

Here is the finished product!
Haven't gotten a chance to play, just put string on and gotta hit the sack.
It looks great though :). The chromes do match, its just the glare makes the covers look different shades depending on how much light hits it

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

Turn off the flash. That does look VERY awesome and VERY unique, though.

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

My camera acts very stupid. If you turn the flash off, the picture dims its weird.

Here's another, I LOVE the look of it! Very happy
Its very hard to get a good picture!

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

Found this on google when I was researching my own idea. Heres what I ended up doing to my Epi SG. So first post!

The doner

I've had this Epiphone G-400 SG laying around forever. I really only played it at home when most of my equipment was at our practice space.

The other doner

I bought this pickup for a project and I didn't end up using it. So i've had this in the box for about 3 months and I decided I wanted to change to stock pickup in the SG, but I wanted to retain the look of a chrome covered pickup.

Stole the cover off this stock Epiphone pickup I had lying around. I then removed the Invader pole pieces from the bottom and them put the cover on. Then I screwed the pieces back in over the cover and viola!

So I think it looks good, but does it sound good? Oh yeah, this thing is a crunch factory now! I like it almost as much as my Gibson Explorer.
