Clapton and his boost

Re: Clapton and his boost

I had one- it's great for a low to medium gain amp, but didn't mix well with my EVH 5150 III

Re: Clapton and his boost

I've never understood Clapton' fascination with playing a fender and using additional electronics to produce a sound similar to what he had with Gibsons in Cream.

Clapton felt that his tone with Cream had become a cliche. Everyone copied it.

Everyone except Robbie Robertson and when Clapton heard the Band it threw him into shock.

After that he switched to the Strat and became a much better rhythm player and a more complete guitarist.

He also became an excellent finger style acoustic guitarist.

I do prefer his soloing tones with a Gibson through a Marshall.

But like all true artists, Clapton had to move on and create new sounds...just like Picasso had to move on and create new ways of painting...or like Joni Mitchell started playing with jazz musicians.

Joni lost much of her old folky audience but a true artist (not a pop artist) is all about growth and fresh directions.

Re: Clapton and his boost

for me, the neck position with the boost would be great for the fat blues

the new elite strat has the s1 :it's different but it brings another kind of sound, not vintage blues
a darker sound and fatter ?
i tried it but i need to play with the Clapton model too

about the bridge pickup +the boost for the EC model
can we shred? or would it be better with a new strat deluxe hss ? for high gain

so if you have a hss and Clapton model, which is the best ?

All S1 does is offer different switching options. Putting the neck and middle in series will make it a little hotter and darker, the Clapton Boost is an active preamp, completely different ball game. It adds a ton more output which will thicken and saturate the next gain stage.

yes i know that
but i would like to know if the Clapton strat can be good for high gain with a pedal or no
a hss elite would be better

the thing i like about the boost is i won't need any pedal for the boost
and i like the volume with the boost of the guitar

Re: Clapton and his boost

yes
sg
explorer
strat

some fantastic live with Cream with a sg
with derek 2 cd with a strat
with Peter and ronnie in 73 with a LP

and the others with his blackie and with the mid boost from 86 ? to 2016

Re: Clapton and his boost

the best one IMO with the SAmbora and Clapton

fender hss shawbucker elite
bypass
s1
noiseless pickups (4th generation, the new ones)
fender locking tuners
shawbucker humbucker and other good things
but no boost inside

private reserve sound uber expensive.. LOL .

kool vid but i really dislike sig models.. mainly from the price standpoint but there are other reasons im not a fan of sig

boost sounds kool though.. I just modified a wiring diagram to use the boost I posted. Keeps the wiring theoretically the same considering I gave up my master volume for the boost...

Re: Clapton and his boost

custom shop edition but the video shows how the boost works on stage for example

eBay or other has a lot of used custom shop guitars
second hand

Re: Clapton and his boost

When I first saw this thread title, I thought this was going to be an exploration of Clapton's (alleged) use of a treble booster with his Marshall in his bluesbreaker days.

Shows what I know.

:scratchch

Re: Clapton and his boost

clapton is not known for that but for a strat and his boost inside

i have never heard he used a booster with his Marshall in the 60's

Re: Clapton and his boost

It's actually much much louder than a humbucker

i have a strat
i have a boost but i read it won't be like that

much louder than a humbucker ? my questions is
for the neck position and a boost = versatile guitar ok
but for the bridge position ? can i shred? playing fast licks with harmonics like i do with a sh4 for example or is just a single coil with a boost ?
