Clapton mid boost in a Tele

Hey Everyone,

I've got a usacg tele body to work with and thinking of a roy buchanan style build with the nancy tone pickups. I was thinking if anyone has ever put a clapton mid boost kit in a tele like fender does with the strats? It looks like some routing is involved(no big deal) and a custom type cover. I am undecided wether or not to use a pickguard, the body is not vintage routed so I thought to route the back for the circuit board and make a cover for it. The body is so nice and the quality is great (89 dollar buy) that I'm not wanting a pickguard. Thinking of a copper color from guitar reranch. Not decided on a neck,my current tele has a modern c shape and it feels small to me. What profile is an early 50's tele neck? I have a gotoh modern bridge that I like, Does a vintage 3 saddle bridge intonate well open as well as 12th fret? I have no exp. with them. What ones are good ones to use? thanks in advance.

it could be done but ive never done it. it is a three knob setup volume, tone, mid boost which would necesitate a little different configuration than a typical tele but i think it would be very cool.

a vintage tele neck could be really thick. i used to play a '56 tele that had a great big fat neck like a warmoth fat or boat contour.

i use the callaham three saddle tele bridge which has compensated saddles and i find that i can get the intonation pretty **** good

The concern is where you are going to put the curcuit board. The Clapton midboost circuit board is mounted just below the pickup route above the switch (on the Strat). This would mean you would need to route out the body somewhere under the pickguard to put the board. You would need to get the measurements of the board to see if it can fit under the stock pickguard. Its possible you may need to put a larger guard on it to cover the route. I will try to take a look at my Clapton Strat and my Tele to see if it will fit. The oter problem is whee to put the battery. I would prefer to have it accesible, so its easy to change. On a Tele you may have to put it under the guard also. I don't think it will fit in the control cavity.
