Class A Combos?

I'd like to read up on a few. Obviously, I know of the Vox AC30 (and am considering buying on in a few months' time) but I was wondering if you guys had any other amps that I could read up on and try.

No amp too loud or quiet, just Class A and preferably in combo form.

There is this general issue of calling something Class A just because it is cathode biased. Happens all the time. The amps that you are probably most familiar that you think "class A" are probably just Cathode biased. Vox, Matchless, Bad Cat to name a few. Lew is really digging his two Matchless amps. They make them in 1x12 form so that you can still manage to carry them around.

Both are great sounding amps (the Fargen being my dream amp, but it also cost 4x as much as the Crate). Both deliver Vox-ish type tones and more.

I tried the Fender Pro Junior at Guitar Center the other day, the cleans were amazing, not much word on the overdrive/distortion aspect, but I believe its Class A, and its really a great little amp thats pretty loud for its size!

Try the Matchless Phoenix 35, it uses two EL-34's.

The Gibson Goldtone series used to be the Trace Elliot Velocette amps.

My Trace 1x12 is a keeper! It has a 6 watt/15 watt switch, built-in reverb and just sounds like God.

Well, if you're going to sell amps, it's not worth the pissing match you can get into if you claim it is something that it is not. Too much time debating stuff when you could be building amps.

As I understand it, just about the only common fully Class A tube amps are single tube models like the Champ. The Savage Macht 12 appears to be an exception. But on the whole, it's a cathode-biased thing you're probably after, including the Vox AC's, the Orange AD's, most Matchless and Bad Cats, small tweed Fenders, the Marshall 18-watters, etc.

The THD Bivalve is Class A but not SE.

It is true that all SE amps are Class A but they're not the same thing. SE means that there's a single power tube (or transistor). Class A deals with how the power tube(s) conducts current through the entire phase of the signal.

In Class A, every power tube conducts through the entire phase of the signal (at max output) where Class AB has half the tubes cutting out during some portion or the cycle.

And, many amps run class A during idle and low volume but run A/B when being pushed (Vox AC30).

VHT pitbull 45 is a true class A or you can switch it to run A/B, these can be had used for between seven or eight bills in a single or two twelve combo.
