Classic Lead v.s. G12H

I have been thinking long about replacing one of the V30s in my cab with either a Classic Lead or a G12H...
What's the difference between those two?

thanks

Re: Classic Lead v.s. G12H

Not a lot of experience with the Classic Lead, but Christian said it sounds the least Celestion-like of their whole line. Kind of a mix between Jensen, Eminence, EV, and Celestion. He can correct me if I'm wrong.

The G12H30 has a thick syruppy sound. It has good sensitivity, and a firm low end with a rounded top. I prefer it to V30s and G12t-75 any day. Haven't A/Bed it with a Greenback though.

Ok I never got the syruppy thing... X-D

Am I correct that the G12H is the average Heavy Metal/Hard Rock speaker? Or could you name me some bands in that genre using them?
I also heard the CL is kinda 'American' sounding...

Btw I don't like the G12T either... it's too... not... ah it doesn't cut it anyway.

lol syrup? I can't comment.

Hmmm well if you ahev ever used mesa Black Shadow C90s, it's almost the same as the CL80.

The CL80 has, as described, a kind of very clean, decently warm, balaned, with a little compression sorta mesa / ev tone. It's a good matchn with a V30 to warm up a cab and balance the cleans and get more lows, offset the V30 spikey tone.

G12H30s are very warm yet classic. They really are the V30 / Greenback crossroades. They crunch really well, they have the nice spike's and highs of the Celetion line, they bark, but in a fatter way, work well with single coils, and have a grindy sorta crunch. Very nice as well.

Look at it like this

G12H = Vintage-y
CL80 = Modern

Re: Classic Lead v.s. G12H

Luke got hy description of the Classic Lead right...it's a good speaker but IMO it lacks the classic brittish thing in the tone...

As for Hard rock/metal and the H30 I would say no...if there is a Celestion that is a classic rock/metal speaker my money would be on the VIntage 30, which IMO is very different sounding that the H30...

Re: Classic Lead v.s. G12H

OHHHHHHHH then no no no get the G12H30s

Iommi used to ROCK Oranges with H30s LIVE and it sounded KILLER!!!!

I thought you meant something else altogether

Re: Classic Lead v.s. G12H

I must say the H30 / V30 mix is DIVINE!

THE V30s give you some smooth and cut, the H30s, a ton of crunch and low attitude. Though, you know the old school H30 tone from records, and its nothing to worry about.
