Cleaning a white pick guard....

Hey guys I tried doing a search but I couldn't find any threads that had info on cleaning a white pickguard. My strat's pickguard is turning yellow from my sweat and I was wondering what's the best way to get it too like white again? Thanks in advance!

What you are experiencing is aging. The plastic is beginning to oxidize and I don't think you will be able to get it back to white. Its not so much that its dirty, but the plastic is physically changing color! If you want a bright white guard you should buy a new guard!

i might wait til it gets worse and then replace it. Certain aspects of aging I like. Like the wearing away of the finish on the maple fretboard, but the yellow on the pickguard just looks really bad IMO. It's not that big of a deal. I was just wondering cause I was polishing her up before our gig tonight. Thanks for the input.

I have a similar Strat, but mine's a '96, and it's what I've determined to be irreversible.

I think it looks better than all glossed out personally, plus if you ever sell it, you can market it as a relic and double the price, right?

Here's a not-so-recent picture of mine, is this the same thing you're running into? (look close, right in the neck-middle area, picking has "cleaned up" the middle of the "stain")

P.S. Have fun at the gig tonight; I can't make it out but I'm sure you guys will rock the house / pull hoes like a tractor :bigok:

If you really want it to be white again, just buy a new pickguard. They're not too expensive.
